Ok, broke down and bought this one. After seeing the screenshots, couldn't resist . Very impressed overall . Video was excellent for the most part (with the exception of a few moments of awkward damage here and there, some of which strangely did not appear on the DVD, or at least that I could see when I compared the two). Regardless, the image quality on the Blu is a welcomed and surprising step up from the DVD (I honestly didn't think this film would look this good!). Audio was solid also, though parts of the DTS-MA track really only amplified the limitations of the original source material, and most of the time, not in a good way. I still like the original mono track better, which for some reason, sounds more balanced and natural to me (I should also mention that I still love listening to the American mono dub-track from time to time for humor reasons, I'm glad that track was put on the disc too).

The previous bonus features from the Special Edition DVD are all included in one form or another (especially considering the DVD included is the Special Edition ), so no complaints there.

Overall, I'm quite happy, and I only wish that Warner's "Road Warrior" release had turned out as well as MGM's "Mad Max" did here.

God, you're right.
The cameras used were the one used by Sam Peckinpah on The Wild Bunch. Georges Miller says they still had fake blood stains on them and even inside the magazines.

I believe even if the negative is not in great shape, one can make the movie look a bit better, doing a fresh scan. I suspect the scan used is the one from the DVD version which is old (but I might be wrong, correct me if this is re-scanned recently)

Fury Road? Only of real interest if they manage to somehow get Gibson in it.

This killed ANY chance to buy this BD for me. They did not preserve #1 in the proper way. I'm out of this mess.

By the way, KDO, where you referring to the yellow speckles?

You do realize that a film on a small budget isn't going to waste time filming "extras" right? They tend to focus on the actual film.

I don't know if it was re-scanned...but it looks good enough for me.

Sorry to hear that you're not happy with the results...Yes, I did notice some yellow speckling/staining on the print (most notably at about 11:18 during the scene in which Max is pursuing, and closing in on, the Night Rider), but there's other bits of print defects here and there as well (like a quick, dark gritty line that goes across almost the entire frame when Max and Jessie are laying in the grass and talking while on their vacation. I should note that the same line appeared on the DVD, though it wasn't as noticeable, possibly due to the lower resolution). The yellow speckling however, I did not see at all on the DVD, after close comparison. The overall image is a tad bit darker, but for the better (and personally I found it so minimal, I barely noticed it). Anyway, I'm very happy with it, and as I said before, I didn't think it would look this nice, but that's just my take on it, others may disagree.

I know I have it. They also do a very fine 1:43 version too, in a twin pack with a villain car from early in the movie.

Here is the 1:18....

and here is the 1:43 twin set. The Interceptor really is an exact copy of the 1:18, it's lovely!

Edit: Tom Hardy seems to be attached to the project as MAX now. Last time I saw him he was a London gangster in a Martha Cole adaptation, and before that he was the Picard clone Chinozn (sp?) in STAR TREK : NEMESIS

Small budget or not, I thought the package of extras for this one was more than ample. Sure, it would've been nice to have some George Miller & Mel Gibson input, but oh well... it should also be noted that there's a lot more bonus material for this release than there was for "The Road Warrior."

I was upset on release day when none of the retailers carried this title. Fry's was the only retailer that carried it.

What a surprise to find out that now the movie is priced at $9.99. It looks like I'll be making the drive to pickup my copy in the next few days.

Who has Mad Max for $9.99? I checked Fry's.com and they have it for $18.99.

It was in their ad today or yesterday.. Might be regional, but in store it's $9.99 (the website doesn't always match these 'great' prices on movies)

I think each one does it differently - down here, they do a small ad on Tuesday (back of the newspaper) and a larger one on Fridays (4-sided). Prices vary from Frys to Frys, so you'd need to check your local one.

Well that's quite a reasonable price . I'd pick it up quick if I were you. Not only do very few stores seem to be stocking this one, but I've not seen any place offering it that cheap.

That's very strange, why didn't they do some restoration on these parts?

I'm happy to hear there are big delays on Fury Road. Hopefully this turn of events conspires to get Mel Gibson back in the film.
