I am very surprised that this thread has, for all intents and purposes, fallen off the map, garnering no posts in the last 11 days despite release being imminent. Would have taken awhile to find it if not for the search option, buried as it is (and yes I do realize that a lot of the discussion pertaining to this title is being carried out in the stickied Criterion thread).
Enough moaning... I do have a question. Given the history of a number of Criterion blus showing up early in brick-and-mortar retail stores (e.g. Best Buy) and the fact that another prominent Oct. 19th release in Apocalypse Now has been spotted at said retailers, has anyone seen this one in-store yet (preferably Best Buy)? I see that according to their website that as of this evening it is not available for pick-up. If not now, will it be available for in-store purchase on release date from this or any other b&m store? Any insight is appreciated... At least this post will serve as a thread bump ![]() |

Yea, B&N and Borders are usually good options for more 'obscure' titles, but as you said prices are set at MSRP, which is why I typically prefer Best Buy since they price match if they don't already carry the lowest price. The semi-annual November Criterion sale would be the prudent thing to wait for, but I have never been a patient man
![]() May order from Amazon on Tuesday evening if my local Best Buy does not get it in or the other two retailers mentioned above do ot have a decent price release week. As a prime member, should get it Thursday, allowing enough time to perhaps digest the Apocalypse Now BD. Thanks for the suggestion... |

I wanted to buy this but knowing Criterion and there method of selling box sets of classics I refuse to buy it as a standalone release. I saw this available for JPN and would die for it!

I remember the discussions mid-last year surrounding this set and another in the works. One point to note is that none of the films as presented in the sets have English subtitles... so depending on your location that could affect your decision to purchase. In fact, I seem to recall they only had Japanese language/subtitle tracks.
As for region testing, I do not recall any info other than they are Region A playable with no information on other regions. |

Many, if not all, of the movies in those Kurosawa boxes are Region Free. But as mentioned, have no English subtitles.
The PQ on the Japanese SS is inferior to the Criterion. Toho's release looks very poor in comparison. TOHO version screenshots: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...#seven_samurai You can look at the Criterion shots in the DVDBeaver review to compare. |

BFI should release this in the UK (region B). But I thought they (BFI) would release it 18th October but it seems to be postponed?
