No, don't bump anything up! proper wire size needs to be already installed and the devices must be changed to properly, legally do that. your insurance company won't pay out a dime if fire occurs and they find it's been improperly "bumped up"! so check the wire size first. no bumping!

I have checked the wire and it has 30A stamped on the outside.
So I wasn't planning on running new wire.

i wished you had stated that you were from New Zealand before we all tried to help you out with electrical issues. The problem is we all gathered that you were in the USA! my advise is only for folks in the USA, my Masters' License and the Electrical Code (whatever it is in NZ) won't help you with your issues.

but of course that would have been nice to know from the start.

not a problem, it just would have saved me some typing that's all! we're cool! wishing you the best of luck with your issue and please have a safe installation done. if you are not familiar with actual electrical work done properly and/or if your country requires a licensed electrician to do the work then you should to that to protect your gear and your home.

please keep us posted.

oh yeah, i was in NZ in 83' when i was in the Navy (USN) i also went all over Australia and had a blast! i will pass on the veggamite (sure i'm spelling it wrong) but that stuff it tuff on the nose an mouth, for us Americans that is!

At the moment this is on a 16amp fuse.

What should I change it to? 20amp or 30amp?

Yeah,

Don't worry, I'm not doing the work myself. I just wanted to know what size Amp circuit to tell the electrician to put in.

We are also on 220-240V. Not 110V.

Sorry for starting a fire.

I'm not having any issues with the 16A circuit. I haven't got my UPA-5 yet.
I was just getting ready.

Yeah Vegemite. Great stuff. You got to put on heaps of butter. Let it melt and then squish that vegemite in.

We also play Rugby (football) with no shoulder pads. See "invictus" movie.

And of course we are the LOTR, King Kong and bits of Avatar country.

The reason I say this is he will have to run new wiring to the current outlet. If he is going to go through this process I would just have a separate circuit at your rack instead. So you would have a 16amp and 20amp. Where are you located as I have never heard of a 16amp circuit?

I did state he would have to run new wiring but should have been more specific as to needing it to be 12awg for a 20amp circuit. I typed a short response from my Droid

he is outside of the USA erict (you'll have to read back a ways in the post) so the wire gauge given dosen't pertain to whatever they use in New Zeland where he is from. # 12 wire is for the American Wire Gauge (AWG) and the 20a circuit is again something for the NFPA 70 NEC used here in the USA and he is using 220/240v as a standard and not the 125v standard we use here (in America) so everything is going to be different for him. he is wise and is going to have a qualified licensed electrician do the work for him.

he shouldn't have to tell the electrician anything other than the size circuit he needs for his gear and since there power is different from ours (requirement and voltage wise) he should consult with his electrician over there.

Really good question 4x12.

Can anyone confirm this.
Well I heard back from Emotiva last night... and heres the response I got from Emotiva Support:

Quote:
Hello Joey,

First of all thank you for being an Emotiva customer. Our products do not require a break in period. They are all pre burned in before they leave our factory so just turn it on and enjoy. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.
So no burn-in needed...

So, I've made the call. I am now the proud owner of a UMC-1 processor. I am awaiting shipping confirmation, and of course receipt of said unit.
I figure it should go well with the XPA-5. Now to decide what to spend the EmoBucks on?

Congrats Zman!!! Do you need interconnects, that could be one way to spend those Emobucks.

I'll be sure to write a review. I think there's plenty of FUD out there about the UMC-1. Mainly because it was released with beta firmware that was nowhere near ready for prime time. But with the latest release, they have ironed out most, if not all, of the concerns I would have with the unit. I went with the UMC-1 instead of waiting for the XMC-1, because I still need to use legacy inputs for my cable box. It's a known issue with my cable company that the HDMI outputs on their boxes have a lot of drops with audio and video. With component, there's no problems.
I'm excited to hear the audio differences with it versus my Pioneer receiver that I was using. Should be an interesting comparison.

I'll definitely write a review here for the unit once I get it, and after I live with it for a while. Try to get some first-hand info out to those who are interested.

You know Fors*, I thought about IC's. But I'm pretty good on them for now. I have some trouble free HDMI cables, and I have x-series Emotiva IC's for connection between the processor and amp. I inquired about the milled alum. remote, and it comes with the UMC-1 now, so that saved $70. They don't have any black trim pieces in stock right now, so that's probably where some of the emobucks will go. Maybe some better HDMI cables, or component IC's? I've got time, maybe I'll use it towards the XDA-1 DAC after it gets released. Plenty of toys left to buy.

You could easily paint the silver trim pieces black if you want to save some money. I tried it to make a comparison, and it looked just about identical. I even painted the screws black as well and they didn't even scratch when I screwed them in. I like your idea about that XDA-1 DAC the best.
