If anyone could advise, it'd be greatly appreciated. I ordered Seven Samurai from Criterion and they shipped via USPS.

USPS tracking status on Oct. 18 said the package was delivered. Nothing came on the 18th and nothing came today on the 19th.

Obviously, it's not Criterion's fault. Has anyone had this happen to them with USPS marking it delivered but no package arriving?

I never had that issue. I did have my postal worker steal my package for three days once. It was out for delivery but he never brought it. The weekend came and he was "off", then Monday came and he was "sick" and took my package with him, so his replacement didn't have it to deliver.

Usually if this happens, the postman left it sitting out. Someone may have taken it, which means you could be SOL. Was it a larger package that would not fit in your mailbox? That would probably be the only reason it would not be delivered.

I wasn't a fan of the film and didn't think the PQ or AQ were very good either, but that may just be me.

When they don't fit USPS puts them on top of the mailbox. As they did today with a bigger package.

I hope no one ran off with it, because then you may be out of luck. Your lucky though, my carrier just leaves it sitting on the ground, rain or shine.....

Ive had that happen 2 or 3 times... but I typically order through Amazon, and they will send a replacement out ASAP with no questions asked.

A buddy of mine ordered Seven Samurai from Amazon. He has prime and gets BR's on release date. Seven Samurai just shipped today for him and he'll get it Thursday...

It's like the bandits are disrupting the shipping

This might sound like a dumb question, but how big are the new style digipaks - Breathless, Seven Samurai (and presumably Night Of The Hunter) - compared to the clear single disc cases? I've never seen the digipaks, are they the same height, or taller?

Have not been able to get Seven Samurai yet since I usually buy them at HMV and they have had problems getting the last two weeks in. But based on Breathless (And assuming the ledge I have them on is level )....

Height
  • Slightly taller than the original packaging.
  • Slightly taller than boxsets with the clear cases inside like Che.
  • Slighlty taller than Brakhage.
  • Identical in height to The Leopard.
  • A fair bit taller than the clear cases.

Width
  • Thinner than boxsets with clear cases, thinner than Brakhage and very slightly thinner than The Leopard.
  • Wider than the clear cases and a lot wider than the original packaging.

So just like DVD don't expect good uniformity with Criterion Blu-Ray. Which is why I didn't bother with the replacement cases. Although the old cases do suck for other reasons so guess I could have still got the clear cases due to that. The Leopard is the best reference if you know how big that was. Or the last picture in my Criterion folder in my HT Gallery has The Leopard on the ledge with the other Criterion.... https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...&folderid=3868

Have not taken an updated picture since I have fallen slightly behind on my Criterion and need to get Secrets of The Grain and Black Orpheus (As well as the releases from the last two weeks due to the HMV issue I mentioned before). Need to decide if I am just going to Amazon then, Best Buy Darjeeling and The Magician if their stock check is to be trusted and Amazon the others, wait for HMV to get them or hold out until November and hope when I am in San Diego starting on the 12th that the B&N sale is going on. Will probably just hold out and if the sale isn't happening order them when I get back. Could also order them online from B&N instead of Amazon but have ran into more problems with shipments coming from the US than I would like for some reason so I am always leery on ordering from the US now. The odd thing is my orders from Hong Kong sites like DDDHouse and Renchi have not had issues and tend to rival Canadian shipping times even. You would think the US would be better due to being closer

Thanks heaps, that's very useful.

The lack of uniformity doesn't bother me, they're close enough not to worry about - but I just ordered the 3 disc edition of Apocalypse Now without realizing that they made it DVD sized for some idiotic reason, and for some equally idiotic reason that *does* bother me.

If Seven Samurai and Night of the Hunter were close to DVD sized, it would be fine...now I have to get the 2 disc version of AN otherwise it will stick out like dogs b-lls.

Yes, I know I'm pathetic

It's weird cause for me it's delayed. I just got an email from Amazo.ca, won't ship until October 29th

Is it even possible to even get a replacement case for Breathless/Seven Samurai?

No, there are no replacement cases for those. Replacement cases are only available for 8 of the earlier releases.

If, for some reason, you don't like the packaging for those titles, one option is to order replacement cases for the other titles and then print out your own cover insert.

For the fellow Canadians, I'm wondering where you buy your BDs? HMV's prices for Criterion especially appear to me to be absurdly expensive? Do you use Amazon.ca or Amazon.com? When Barnes & Noble have the Criterion sale, do you shop on BN.com?

I've always rented my movies through Zip, an arrangement I am generally satisfied with (except for absurd mail delays on either end!), but am debating whether to begin buying some Blu-rays. But I'd like to hear from other Canadians (I'm in Toronto, but no I don't travel to the US on business or anything) how they buy their films. Thanks.
