Ok I need help as I am very confused. Could anyone please help me? I have a Denon-1910 and a Oppo BD-83
I just bought Seven Samurai on Blu-ray and I get no blue light (actually I can't tell if it is playing the audio properly) as it is just displaying Dolby on dvdbeaver it states this... *Regarding the track discrepancy - Criterion have replied to me: "The stereo surround track on our disc is indeed encoded as 2 channel linear PCM and should be DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0." That said, "The viewer's experience is essentially the same here. Both lossless codecs result in 2 channel linear PCMs being output to the receiver, the only difference being that the lossy DTS core of the DTS HD-MA stream (which viewers with older, non HDMI 1.3 equipped receivers would hear) carries a Dolby Pro Logic flag that triggers surround decoding of the stereo track by their receivers. Anyone listening to a lossless stereo surround (aka LT/RT, Dolby Pro Logic) track needs to manually engage Pro Logic decoding as PCMs can't carry that flag." What does this actually mean? How do I manually engage Pro-logic decoding? Any help or insight would be appreciated!! |

That you for the suggestion. I am trying to do this on a denon 1910 / 690 and unfortunately there is no specific button. Any denon owners that could walk me through how to do this?

Just a heads up: There's a slight possibility this applies only to my district, but it seems Best Buy is not carrying Seven Samurai, at least not yet. The SKU is an online only product and no stores in my district are even receiving this in.

Dont most of us use Amazon anyway? I know there's people who don't... but like 90% of us probably do use Amazon. Actually, after I think about it... there was no reason for me to say that. LOL
Anyway, I'm getting the blu of SS for Christmas along with a few other great blu titles!! |

It's a little strange, since they did carry titles like Crumb and Red Desert (as well as Yojimbo/Sanjuro). It must be part of their new directive to shrink the media section. Last edited by Zen_Amako; 10-20-2010 at 05:15 PM. |

OK, so now I am really confused:
The review on this site is very favorable to Seven Samurai, but the review on HighDefDigest is like the exact opposite. ![]() Here is the link: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/3495/sevensamurai.html So, what's the truth? ![]() It's usually in between, isn't it? ![]() Have any of you seen it yet? What's the quality like? ![]() Are there any serious PQ/AQ issues? Please let us know! ![]() Thanks a million! Much appreciated! ![]() |

Didn't notice any serious AQ issues.
Several lines, etc.. that are basically print damage I'm assuming, but aside from that, the amount of detail throughout is phenomenal. I'd certainly say that this runs circles around the previous Criterion DVD presentation (which was still pretty great at the time) |

This caught my eye in the Highdefdigest review...
"Dialogue sometimes has a problem with clarity and distinction..." At the risk of sounding like the stereotypical Ugly American I have a hard time believing any non-native speaker could distinguish clear, distinct Japanese dialogue from unclear, indistinct Japanese dialogue. John Belushi Samurai Dry Cleaner routines aside, I've seen a lot of Kurosawa movies over the years and I long ago gave up on Japanese diagogue being more than a blur to me. |

I've noticed a lot of the special titles like older movies or art films are not carried initially at all 3 of the bestbuys around me. Eventually they do get a copy or two. I have a feeling they place very small orders and when they don't sell they ship them around to their other stores.

The truth is that the film does look and sound amazing. And anyone who would argue that the presentation does not deserve praise, most certainly isn't familiar with the film's history, as well as the different releases it has seen during the years.
Order with confidence! Pro-B |

How did that happen? Almost like saying I love Nintendo buy I haven't played a Mario game. Definitely one of the best films ever.
