Been watching AMC's Fear Fest this week and there are a lot of commercials for this. Can't wait to check it out!

Episodes 1.01 - 1.06 - Synopsis

[Show spoiler]PILOT/EP 101 – “Days Gone By”
Rick searches for his family after emerging from a coma into a world terrorized by the walking dead. Morgan and Duane, whom he meets
along the way, help teach Rick the new rules for survival.

EP 102 – “Guts”
Rick unknowingly causes a group of survivors to be trapped by walkers. The group dynamic devolves from accusations to violence, as Rick must confront an enemy far more dangerous than the undead.

EP 103 – “Tell It To The Frogs”
Rick makes a decision to go back to Atlanta to retrieve the bag of guns and save a man’s life. Lori and Shane must deal with the surprising return of someone they thought was dead.

EP 104 – “Vatos”
Rick’s mission to Atlanta is jeopardized when things go awry. Jim becomes unhinged in camp.

EP 105 – “Wildfire”
Rick leads the group to the CDC after the attack. Jim must make a terrible life and death decision.

EP 106 – “TS-19”
Rick and the group are allowed into the CDC, by a strange doctor. But all is not what it seems in their newfound haven.

Well... the average comic takes 15 minutes or less to read, depending upon how long you linger on each panel of artwork... so 50 issues of a comic could be read in around 12 hours.

IF you really get into the story, and have enough spare time... you could probably catch up on a series like this in a couple of weeks.

Wow, never read comics I just assumed people spent a lot of time looking at the artwork and they took a lot longer to go through. After watching the first episode, I am actually very interested in seeing how it compares to the series.

The comic series is great. I just finished going through the sixth hardcover collection over the weekend and I don't think the series as a whole has had any major missteps in telling its story. Judging from the episode descriptions you posted, it sounds like the series is charting off in a different direction and taking some interesting turns away from the comic book.

I had expected this first season to be a straight-up adaptation of the first story arc, but it looks like it's cutting away from that quite a bit while borrowing bits and pieces. Won't know for sure until they air, of course, but I'm kind of glad, in a way, since it'll be like meeting these characters again for the first time and not knowing what's in store for all of them after all. Should be some nice surprises coming up!

The first season is six episodes. It wasn't officially renewed for a second season that news was false, however I see this being around for awhile.

'Walking Dead' plans global zombie invasion stunt

AMC plans a rather ambitious promotional stunt to promote The Walking Dead.

The cable network is staging "zombie attacks" in 26 major cities -- hundreds of extras in zombie makeup roaming landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Big Ben in London, The Prado Museum in Madrid.

The stunts will commence at daybreak in Taipei and Hong Kong on Tuesday, Oct. 26 and moves across the globe during a 24 hour period and culminates at the show’s Los Angeles premiere.

The six-episode series debuts Oct. 31 and the series is going to debut internationally in 120 countries the same week as the U.S. premiere.

I've seen the first two episodes. If you've watched the four-minute trailer, you have an accurate sense of how well-executed this drama is. Fans of the genre are going to love it. The question is whether it can draw a large enough (read: female) audience. The uncompromising opening scene, which I won't spoil, is going to lose X% of viewers right off the bat. The rest is almost certainly the most gory series ever to air on TV.

The bit about the opening scene losing viewers is definitely true. Some people are just pus*ies. I laughed my ass off during this scene, but I see parents turning it off in horror.

The artwork in Walking Dead is good, but not super-detailed. So there really isn't a lot to linger on. Some books take longer to "read" if there is a lot of background detail to savor OR lots of dialog...

I remember there was a Green Arrow series years ago that was less than 10 minutes to read most issues... and on the other end there are some comics that take 20-30 minutes with super-detail and lots of dialog.

Comics are a lot like story-boards, though... for TV shows or movies. You can easily imagine a TV show based upon a comic... and for many comics you're talking 1 TV show episode per issue... and you might be able to do it in a 30-min episode.
