but i agree, if it gets more people to know the story, that's one thing. but after people see this, how many will know it's even a remake? it's not like remakes say "based off of the film that this is a remake of", so it still leaves the original film in the dark mostly. or people tend to think if there's a remake, then the original must have sucked if it needed to be remade, which is definitely not the case.
I agree with you -- no need for a remake here. Love the original. Even though I'm not a big Fincher fan, I have a lot of respect for him, based on the enormous success of his films. Here's what it comes down to -- many English speaking people are too lazy to read subtitles. It drives me nuts. When friends come over and say "dude, put the English dubbed audio on", I quickly reply "dude, get out of my house"

yeah, it's sad how lazy the majority of people are.
but that's really how they should re-release this film. take out the subtitles and just have english dubs. as sad as that is at least then people get to see a terrific, underrated film - as it's supposed to be - and not a remake.

sadly though, either way is still terrible the original - with subtitles - is what should be seen

that would be equally evil - remake v. forced english dubbed audio. that's like choosing between watching Batman&Robin or Catwoman

first: what is in your spoiler tag? nothing comes up.
second: you said you haven't even seen the original and then you state a "fact" that this remake will be better because Fincher is directing it?

i... i don't even know where to begin with how wrong that statement is.

he's a great director no doubt -- even if I personally don't dig him
my personal opinion matters little -- i'm sure he'll do a great job. but that original set the bar high. very high.

Im about to change the subject real quick . Lately i've been kinda pissed with some to the comments on the greatest movie ever made! "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" So i need to know whats up? I need every ones full attention PLEASE PARTICIPATE. After hearing all your reviews it sounds like you like movies with awesome themes, beautiful shots, good direction and good acting. I seriously without being bias dont see how Benjamin Button doesnt exceed in all these categories. SOME ONE HELP ME. Allow me to see the movie in your eyes. Why does everyone crap on this movie????? Is it because its unrealistic? Why? I need to know!

In addition isnt this the only movie to be put in the Criterion Collection with its initial release? Thats gotta mean something?

1. it was like a dramatic version of "The Jerk" without the laughs
2. it was based on a comedy script of a woman who delivered a 200 lb dude. it was never meant to be taken seriously, hence why my feelings that the dramatic aspect didn't feel genuine were right on
3. the reverse time thing fell flat: I must be able to relate to something in a film. how can I relate to something that can never, ever happen to me? Unlike other fantasy films like FOrrest GUmp or Big Fish, they at least had fantasy aspects that were somewhat relatable to an ordinary person. Reverse time goes against everything life stands for. I still have no idea what i'm supposed to get from it
4. the film felt pervy:
[Show spoiler]80 year old PItt meets 10 year old Blanchett, then later on 40 year old Pitt bangs 40 year old Blanchett? yuck!

5. Oh and I almost forgot: I have no idea what any of the message was.

FYI - I love Pitt & Blanchett. Babel is in my top 30 all-time!! Now that is a great film with great themes!

- there was very little that was interesting besides the reverse aging. and even with that, the film was incredibly slow paced, 100% serious (which sucked the life out of the film imo), had almost no message that followed the story, and felt very creepy at times.

there was no one i could connect with in the film. i couldn't connect with the story, i couldn't connect with falling in love with a 10 year old ( but seriously, that is super creepy), and i didn't feel anything during its endless run time.

we all know not everyone loves the same film(s), and everyone has their own reasons behind it. it will probably be impossible for you to see it through "our eyes" if you love the film as much as you do.

Interesting points.

The inspiration for the film really donesnt matter to me. It what i get out of it. I think i love Benjamin Buttons so much is because i actually Cared About Him. It felt like watching someone who would never have a chance of living a normal life. But everything plays out perfect when their ages looks similar, but as time goes it goes right back to being f*ucked up.

He first job- A sailor
He lost his virginity to a prostitute
His first love was a well aged married woman
His first drink

All this stuff happened and he was actually in his teens.

I rarely cry, We Were Soldiers got to me and this movie. I really cared for this f*cker.

Yeah maybe. But its still fun to know why you didnt like it. Im not getting mad its just a different take. The world would be boring if we all agreed on the same sh!t.

now that is a great point I may have overlooked -- lots of people can relate to the "I feel like I don't belong" mood, or to the "cards stacked against them" deal. Who knows, maybe I'll give this another viewing for the heck of it. Bearcat's already convinced me to give Fight Club another go.

In try to remember that pitt is not a old man with "Free Candy" painted on his truck. He's the same age as her in the head. Pure not knowing anything about the world except death at that point. Which is a cool concept. "A kid grows up in a old folks home, he or she is immune to the pain of death because it happens so often in addition he has the chance to learn from all these people that lived their lives"

Aye David Fincher almost cried in the special features. This is was his most personal film he said because of the recent death in his family.

i'm sure you won't give it a 5/5, but hopefully you'll enjoy it at least a tad bit more than before, or see something differently than on earlier viewings

For those among us who have not seen Toy Story 3 yet...

Quote:
There are powerful scenes sprinkled throughout Toy Story 3; profound, overwhelming sequences that left me shaken, stirred and lying in a quivering heap of man-tears.
Quote:
Cards on the table. As far as I'm concerned, Toy Story 3 isn't just the best of the Toy Story films, it's the finest film in Pixar's canon.

So....who still hasn't seen it?

A wee bit of semi-spoilers in the review/images, so tread carefully.
