I just don't see that there are enough HD DVD owning households in the world to account for all these DUD PE sales. It surely has to be people buying it thinking it will give them a better picture in their SD DVD player.

I don't really think the top 2-3 titles are the decider, each week both formats usually have a couple of good sellers.

HD-DVD's problem has been sales dropping off after the top couple of titles.

I thought this was interesting:

Quote:
Out of the 94 Warner titles tracked at Amazon, currently 80 titles rank higher on Blu-ray Disc and 14 rank higher on HD DVD.
http://www.blu-crew.com/WarnerWars.php

I know that the BOGO would push some extra Warner titles to BD side, but this is the strongest ratio in favour of BD that I have seen.

In fact, about a week ago I think it was actually in favour of HD DVD (or if not it was close to 50:50)...

Blu Ray has a ton of strong residuals coming in play.
PE HD DVD sold (freakishly) well it seems (and perhaps facing so-so DH4 residuals), the determining factor will then be how well the new releases (Mr Bean, Hot Rod & co) will have fared vs SM3, Rat, and the rest.

Yeah, I agree. It is silly to let Vaughn play his power trip games, and provide the information HE/THEY want.

The HDDVD on PE is not on the Amazon free give aways
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...rd_i=193642011

And the Oprah website links to the SD version of PE at Amazon. Must be thoses stay home moms that picked up the $98 HDDVD player at Wallyworld.

Correct, the HD-DVD camp are using this as a propoganda weapon, again.

They can milk it for 48hrs, when the figures come out, it's usually a ho hum +/-5 60-40 week as usual.

80%+ (not scientific, lol) of HD-DVD owner's in Europe buy from the US.

Maybe I missed a previous comment of Dave's, but where exactly did he say DH4 was the #1 BD for the week? If PE HD DVD is number 1, and lost to DH4 (possibly not the #1 disc) by only 2%, who cares?

He didn't say it, the magazine that covers the numbers every week did.

On the high-definition disc charts, "Die Hard" came out on top for Blu-ray Disc, and "Planet Earth: The Complete Collection," from Warner Home Video, made a return to the top of the HD DVD chart.

I don't think Vaughn would be shooting off that #$#@hole of a mouth unless he thought it would be "good" numbers for hd-dvd (with "good" being not a total stomping by BD).

Agreed.
If it was a win for hd I think he would definitely have dropped the numbers by now.
It is a bit irritating that he seems to be the only one with access which gives him way too much leverage.

Vaughn said "DH4", that link says "Die Hard".

So, assuming they are both correct, at the very least the #2 BD beat out the #1 HDDVD, right?

Judging from the rest of the article at the link I believe when they say "Die Hard" they are meaning LFoDH.

If he's right, that basically cancel each other. And it's other BD residuals v. a few B-tier HD DVD new releases.

Surprise is a wide ranging term.

Perhaps the surprise is simply that HD DVD PE sold a bunch that week.

I was surprised that Open Season sold a bunch the week before.

I will be surprised if this surprise is really very surprising.

Better than 45% would be surprisingly good for HD DVD. Anything else is not really all that surprising. Well ... less than 25% would also be surprising

I wouldn't disagree. I think the Planet Earth situation shows the overall must have been quite low.

Or the DH4 residuals were very high.

DH4 > Planet Earth > Mr. Bean or Hot Rod or Anchorman or Old School

This is the lunacy of focusing on weekly ratios, sales will be relatively low compared to Black Friday and next week, yet equal importance is put on each weeks ratios.
