Not sure whats funnier, the jab at Costner, or the jab at 3D.

IN other words,

I thought he did pretty good in the role, he reminded me very much of the Prince from the game.
Haven't played the game but I used to game a lot and it did remind me of Assassin's Creed - just in how the city is layed out and you can run along roofs and climb walls to escape guards etc. I knew ahead of time it was game-based, so tried to keep that perspective

That was the point, she WAS irritating to him, so she was supposed to be irritating to us (well at least for the first half or so).

I gave it a 4.5 because I enjoyed it so much. Is it a fantastic film? No, not really, but its fun, and that's what it was made for, so it achieves its goal quite well.
good point about her. I guess she exceeded my "irritation threshold" But knowing more background on teh game probably helps. Yeah, its definitely in the "fun" category like National Treasure type, so I tried to view it from that point of view, but couldn't make much sense of the script. Just seemed too disjointed. Overall, I had a grasp on what was going on, but everything from the
[Show spoiler]snake dudes to the place where the dagger is from
weren't explained too well IMO. Yeah -- I need help sometimes

At least you went in with the right mindset

So...you're saying they did TOO good of a job on her?

The
[Show spoiler]snake dudes
were based on these guys.
I love the word, because its like assassin...but if Daffy Duck said it

The place the dagger was from was pretty much just a city.
[Show spoiler]It just happened to be where that big freaking hourglass was and where the dagger was kept because of the little girls plea to the gods.
It was actually a real place...though a fortress, not a city really as shown in the movie.

Can you recommend a (good) source for reading up on this? I'd really appreciate it.

Last night I went to the Toronto Cinematheque and watched Hitchcock's most famous film. As much as I love watching films on my home theatre, attending a screening of this movie at a theatre was really the way to go. Watching the movie with several dozen strangers truly enhanced my viewing enjoyment.

The best part of the screening was
[Show spoiler]when Norman, dressed as his mother, rushes out of the room at the top of the stairs, wielding a huge knife, and murders the private investigator, all while the score is screeching and enhancing the tension and drama. The moment Norman Bates burst from the room with the large knife, a girl right behind me screamed in terror. It was hilarious! And there you go - a 50 year old film still frightening its audience.

A classic.

I'm rather mystified by this comment if you were only talking about Psycho and The Exorcist being the 2 timeless masterpieces. John Carpenter's The Thing is also a timeless masterpiece, being the closest adaptation of John W. Campbell's novella "Who Goes There?" And even though I would love to see the original "Thing from Another World" released on BD, I think as remakes go, this stands at the top of any remake list.

Good, glad I'm not the only one

I watched The Thing and loved it Great movie all around

I'm confused by the comment as well, I thought all 3 of those were classics. I decided I'll be watching Psycho now though. This will be my last Horror movie for a while, after 30 days of Horror movies I need a break

ok,ok.I went for the mysterious attention hook here.Yes,I admit I was refering to The Thing and Psycho.Have not seen the Excorcist on BD,but don't think it is as good a movie as the others. It has shock-value.I'll give it that.

Default “The sow is mine!!!”

The Exorcist,” Director’s Cut

A bit on the slow side, but still one of the most intense viewing experiences. A lot of crazy nasty stuff happens, to the point where every time I see the possessed little girl it makes me feel dread.

By today’s standards the film’s graphicness has been far superceded, but I think it’s still effective thanks to the pacing (even if it is slow), the imagery (which is often powerful), the (minimalist use of) music, strong acting, and the edgy direction (I remember hearing that Friedkin went so far as to physically slap and shout at the actors to get the best possible performance. Yikes). To this day, the experience remains unnerving.

Thus, the film is very solidly made and very strong. It is a simple story, but with strong characters, a great sense of realism, and a lot of thematic content. At its core, the movie tackles themes of faith, science vs religion, and ultimately good vs evil.

I saw the deleted footage of the “spider walking” scene years ago and thought it was gaudy, silly, dumb, and out-of-place. It is inserted in to the DC, but surprisingly it’s only briefly, in an appropriate spot in the film that fits with the context of the story, and is actually quite freaky. I’m not wholly sure what other changes were made (extended ending too I think), but suffice to say, the DC overall was way more sublime than I originally thought it would be.

4/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 4/5, film: 4.5/5, intellectual/emotional impact: 4/5)

This Blu-Ray rocks. The picture quality is easily the sharpest, cleanest, best-looking transfer possible for this film, given its age and origins. Color and contrast are excellent. There is still quite a bit of grain to it, but it’s still darn near perfect. Sound quality is superb.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5
