Default Diabolique (1954)

Les Diaboliques, my Halloween night movie this year, is a French horror/suspense film about a murder plan that goes haywire. The lead actress gives an excellent, unsettling performance leaving me glued to the screen. Each scene had several components adding to the stress level... the wife's heart condition, curious characters, the extremely quiet atmosphere, etc. The ending was phenomenal. I think my heart exploded through my chest. It is also a perfect example of how black and white filmmaking has produced some of the most timeless and terrifying scenes in cinema. And as if the punch it packs stops there,

How to Train Your Dragon 8.5/10

I wasn't too sure what to expect. I had heard a lot of good things about the HTTYD. I enjoyed it, found myself laughing in quite a few places in the movie!

I just watched the original House Of Wax with Vincent Price. Any old horror flick with Price is awesome. This was one of the first 3D movies ever. I hope, if 3D does make it big, they figure out how to restore and put these old 3D classics on blu.

Nowhere Boy (UK Import) - 3.5/5, 4/5, 4.5/5(Movie, PQ, AQ)

Aaron Johnson stars as a young John Lennon in a rather common coming of age story highlighted by some strong performances. Almost no Beatles music is played as the story follows a plot surrounding his parentage and his guardianship under his aunt and uncle.

Nice. It makes a great beginning and ending to the month I guess! Is November going to be Criterion month for you once again? I personally cannot wait for Modern Times and the resurrected Metropolis (Kino release).

Just watched Hot Fuzz. I have to say this is one of my favorite comedies. It just has that weird sense of humor I suppose, that you just don't see too often. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do another great job, way better than Shaun of the Dead. It's got great action and comedy. My favorite part has to be at the end when
[Show spoiler]
Angel comes back to the village after being stabbed by Danny(with ketchup xP). It's just hilarious watching these normal looking citizens of this village busting out guns out of nowhere like they were prepared for this all along. The lady riding the bicycle cracks me up. Still riding the bike while shooting 2 pistols.

Simon Pegg is a fun actor. I haven't seen too much of him but I would like to see more movies like this. I also like "How To Lose A Friend And Alienate People", another great movie with Pegg

Monster's, Inc.

kicking off my "Pixar Celebration Day" in excitement and eagerness to get Toy Story 3 tomorrow morning () is the always fun Monster's, Inc.

my first viewing of this was a few months ago and i gave it a 4.5/5, and i think that's where it will stay for now. it's fun, fast paced, exciting, incredibly original (i think it's one of Pixar's most original story ideas yet because the whole world is built from scratch, from their power source, to jobs to creatures, most other films (aside Wall-E) have interesting stories and creatures in our world, but this is all new) and some great, great characters.

the story follows Mike and Sulley as Mike reaches the most scares in company history (scares are used as their energy source, but with kids becoming harder and harder to scare, they are in an "energy crisis"). a great intro to see this process - and what happens when the "human world" interacts with Monstropolis - occurs when a fellow monster ends up with a sock stuck to him the panic and terror is hilarious as they call in a security brigade to clean things up. so when Mike accidentally opens a door and a little girl comes into Monstropolis, all hell breaks lose.

funny, charming, a very "awww" ending, and a smart script make Monster's, Inc. another Pixar success story

PQ: 5/5 - shocking, i know. looks great. phenomenal like always.
AQ: 5/5 - some very intense, great sound. especially when Sully, Mike and Boo are
[Show spoiler]in the factory on the door conveyor belt.

on second thought, i'm gonna bump up my score to a complete 5/5. i have absolutely no complaints with the film. and even though it isn't my favorite Pixar film, i think Monster's, Inc. is a terrific, terrific film.

5/5

Well I have to ask, how many times have you seen it? I remember watching it the first time and being like "What the hell did I just watch?" I gave it another try a good while later and loved it. Now I can't stop laughing, I kind of thought at first, these guys are retarted. It's just all part of the comedy and it works.

"You have a mustache."
"I know."

"Fascist"
"Hag"

There is plenty, I just love it

i've watched it, 4 times start to finish and then about halfway through again. so let's say 5
i won't lie, there are some absolutely hilarious moments, and i love the last 20 minutes or so (when the action really picks up) but it always feels soooooooooo long and drawn out and there's a few too many slow moments for me. and i'd say, for me, for every great big laugh, there are maybe 4-5 jokes that either only get a chuckle or nothing at all. weird, i know.

I got a bigger kick out of Shaun of the Dead, and I am not really that into Zombie films.

Diabolique is great, love the last 10-15 minutes.

Ohhh yes it is. I'm currently at barnes and noble right now and just picked up Paris, Texas, The Thin Red Line, Breathless, and Seven Samurai. Later in the week I'll be getting Red Desert and El Norte and then on the 16th I'll be getting Night of the Hunter. Debating about Paths of Glory, since I haven't seen it. Have you seen it?

As for Modern Times, I definitely like Chaplin with The Kid being my favorite, but idk how much replay value his films have for me.

Ratatouille

#2 on the day
currently my second least favorite Pixar film (miles ahead of Cars), which doesn't mean it's bad, it's still fun, enjoyable, entertaining and a great film. it's just way too long and i'm not interested in food or Paris that much so the film didn't "hook" me like it does some (jhiggy ).

PQ: 5/5 - it's Pixar, so duh.
AQ: 5/5 - lots going on. great sound. no complaints.

4/5
