I can't wait to see the reviews of Timecop given that it's on a single-layer HD DVD!!! Given the huge resolution increase over a normal DVD, it might actually be sub-DVD quality with 15 gb compared to 9 gb?

Not really. Remember that the advanced codecs compress more efficientially. You can't compare sizes between an MPEG-2 transfer and a VC1 or AVC transfer. 9gb of one doesn't equal 9gb quality of the other.

You still need to pack six times the amount of visual information there. The VC-1 codec better be up to the task!

I'll be awaiting that review with a certain amount of glee...

I checked my order status on Warners and HAIRSPRAY is *finally* marked as shipped!!!!! (Wish I could say the same for OCEAN'S gift box and the HP box set, but I'll take one victory at a time!)

Are the YTD and SI numbers a guess, or do you have some data on that? We know the weekly is 58:42.

I usually don't bother with the YTD or SI until I get the official word...usually because they rarely budge. So, take it for what it is worth, that is the numbers I posted are the YTD and SI numbers from last week.

If they change, I always update them accordingly.

Also, curious you guys...what do you think the %s will be if Warner does indeed become Blu-ray exclusive?

I say at minimum, we'd be seeing 80:20 every week, if not higher.

Absolutely! It will climb higher and higher and then... we will start seeing numbers for Blu-Ray vs. DVD.

Absolutely. Clearly, without Paramount and Transformers, I think those numbers you mention would be even higher for Blu *already*. T. has been the only huge seller, and it has had legs, unfortunately.

Without that one title, I don't think anyone on this site would be thinking that there's *any* doubt of Warners and Universal turning Blu at, or soon after, the CES in January.

Tosh bought themselves a very short bit of time, that may be all. They've saved face--barely--through the holidays. It will likely *not* be a Happy New Year for the other side.

Agreed. A consistent 80:20 at worst is an undeniable, dominant lead that no one can make any excuses or spin from one way or the other.

If it does, then that will be an indication of high overall unit counts. But, I would think that Planet Earth getting close to Die Hard would imply otherwise.
