Oops! I just noticed that I forgot to say that the review was for The Battle of the River Plate Blu-ray (aka Panzerschiff Graf Spee). This is a German release.

Were you the one who did a post and then you deleted it? I noticed the post and went to write my addition but then your post was gone. Thanks!

Those soundtracks rock. I only have a couple of tracks from "Smokin' Aces," but they are great. I love the score for "Doom," it's like pure instrumental metal (one of the only good things about the film ).

"Moon" had a good score too, and the score for "Requiem for a Dream" is epic.

Ratatouille was good, but the rats should have pooped in the food.

Finding Nemo was good, but Nemo should have drown at the dentist office and his dad should be eaten by fishermen.

Wall-E was good, but he should have been crushed in the compacter while Eve was forced to watch. And the Humans should have died of starvation and never returned to Earth.

Up was OK, but Carl should die at the end, I mean he's old, right? And Alpha should have eaten Dug, Kevin and Russel. And Muntz should be President of the USA.

Pixar just keeps missing the mark. They are trying hard, and Gandolf and I give them credit for that. But they just cant seem to get it JUST RIGHT.

Do any of you know how one goes about advising a main reviewer that he made a mistake in his review? I'm at the moment watching Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory and went to read the main review and noticed this mistake: "As expected, Criterion have given Stanley Kubrick's once very controversial Paths of Glory top-notch treatment. The film look and sounds the best it ever has. Criterion's Blu-ray disc also contains some very good new supplemental features. This is definitely the type of treatment The Killing needs. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

The Killing is certainly a Kubrick film but it stars Sterling Hayden, not Kirk Douglas!

He's just saying that another good Kubrick film deserves a good transfer like Paths of Glory. No mention of Douglas being in The Killing?

Hehe, it happens. I'm certainly not immune.

If you do ever spot an error I would say that a discrete PM would be the way to go.

I finally watched “Cronos,” the one part of the UK Guillermo Del Toro BD box set that I haven’t seen yet.

It turned out to be quite interesting. I found the story fairly engaging, with an excellent group of decently-developed characters. The mythos of the story wasn’t as involved as I initially expected, but it is a fresh and original premise, and the details of it are unveiled as the story progresses and with the visuals (ohhhh,
[Show spoiler]the guy becomes a vampire!
).

Cinematography is solid, acting is great (I think Ron Perlman is especially noteworthy in this film), writing is good, and the music is splendid. I think it’s a wonderful story and a wonderful film.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4/5, film: 4/5)

This Blu-Ray is the product of a 400 year old alchemist’s experiment. No, it actually looks adequately sharp and detailed with solid color and contrast. Close inspection may reveal some softness. Grain is prevalent, especially in darker scenes. And there are quite a bit of specks all over the image. If it was any cleaner, I’d say it’d be darn near perfect (I’m wondering if Criteron will make it so… ). Sound quality was not bad, but I think some of the voices were subdued and drowned out by the music.

PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4/5

I also popped in the other two movies for a quick quality control check. “Pan’s Labyrinth” would be an easy 4.5/5; a bit grainy with a few noisy spots and some dark spots, but it’s certainly not DNRed. “The Devil’s Backbone” looks swell too, with maybe some specks and grain, but would be somewhere over 4/5.

This collection is Region-B locked.

Well, I don't have the slightest idea how to send a "discrete PM" since I have no idea who wrote/writes the reviews (I know there is more than one person because I think there are too many reviews on this site for one person to do). Am I missing something in the main review which would indicate this? Even though I've been a member for awhile, I still have much to learn about this site.

I tried something just now. In the movie's review, you should be able to click on the reviewer's name. It will then come up with a list of all movies that reviewer has done. Click on his name again, and it should come up with his public profile.

EDIT:
Or you could just click here:

Didn't realize that was pro-basoonist...

Thanks for the information because now I know how to find out that information. I didn't notice until now that this information is available with each review!

just got back from running some errands and picked up a few films at the rental shop that should keep me plenty busy the next day or two:

Away We Go
Babel
Choke
Closer - saw it years ago. loved it.
Coraline (BD)
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Jacob's Ladder
The New World
The Wrestler (BD)

all for $3.14 very excited

and bought The Thin Red Line on dvd for $4 at Best Buy since the rental store didn't have it. and blind buying it on BD for $20 during the Criterion sale is a bit too risky for me

and then i stopped by my mom's house to drop off my Toy Story 3 dvd for her to watch since she's a big fan of the first two films and it was really weird. my mom and i are not real close or anything and never have been, but she started it up and i sat down and watched it with her for a bit and it was just like i was 7 years old / 11 years old again (Toy Story / Toy Story 2 ages respectively) when i saw them in the theater with her. it was really weird how even though we're not very close and don't have any similar interests how even after 11 years, we both ere able to get sucked into the awesome world of Toy Story one last time

alright. sorry to sound like a cheesy infomercial there for Pixar i'm off to watch my pile of movies now.

oh, and sorry Diesel, they didn't have Pitch Black
