About to get a shower and sit down with Black Narcissus for the first time. A dear friend of mine has said nothing but amazing things, and I'm certainly a P&P fan. Excited!

See.... for that one I say "why?" There is a 'decent' Region-Free UK release of it, and the U.S. will likely get a release eventually so it may get a better transfer..... There are so many other films out there.... do you have the UK release? How would you compare the quality to the DVD version you have, or have you?

As for mondays announcements, honestly, I just wish Criterion would get off their ass and put Salo out on BD.
OH.. no pun intended...

Bela Tarr, anyone? His films epitomize what Criterion stands for imo.

If you already have a "Higher Priority" why list the others?

I say "M"

I got a question for people that have seen or have The Magician. How good is the film compared to Bergman’s other films? I was thinking of getting The Night of the Hunter, Modern Times, House, The Thin Red Line, and one more film but I can’t decide between The Magician and Breathless. Bergman’s one of my favorite Directors and the Hour of the Wolf and The Seventh Seal are one of my Favorite films. But I heard a lot about Godard and Breathless but have yet to see any of his films so I’m not sure which to get.

On the subject of the announcement, I know they're skimping on NEW releases, kind of focusing on releasing old stuff on BD, and that's slightly annoying, because I know I want them to keep getting stuff in the collection, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, can we please get Brazil on Blu?

Please.

Please!

PLEASE!!!

I think the Magician is one of Bergman's best films. To my unprofessional eye the pq looks to be one of the better b&w criterions.

Hoping for Louis Malle's "Elevator to the Gallows" (Criterion #335) sometime soon. It has an awesome score by Miles Davis...

1. MGM DVD is average.

2. Theres no reason to buy a merely passable UK release when Criterion has said that they will be putting this one out.

Most importantly

3. I love the film. I don't buy things just to have them like so many people here.

Honestly, I just want the great release of Y Tu Mama Tambien that they announced was in the pipeline in 2009, and anything that isn't from Bergman, Godard, Kurosawa, etc. I like those directors but I want them to throw us a curveball because there are other works that need attention more than those do. Criterion does not need to hurry to put out more from them.

You can ask Why? for many of their films, I'm sure I could for some of the ones you enjoy. I don't see why it matters, really.

Mothman:
I would go with The Magician because it's the first time, I think, that it's been available on DVD or BD in the US. It's an excellent film anyway, and the PQ is excellent.

Maybe we'll finally get some more Wes Anderson?

My final decision was to replace sanjuro/Yamb... set with Modern Days blu ray.

I think Charle Chaplin on blu is more of a must have than Kurosawa.
My final orders are.

1) Seven Samurai
2) The Thin Red Line
3) The Seventh Seal
4) Modern times.

For 100$ total cfor 4 Criterions cant go wrong.

I wanted to pickup Darjeeling Limited today but I noticed the back of the packaging looked kind of odd as if they glued on an extra back cover on it or something. Can anyone comment on the packaging, is this cover-up for a mistake they made during printing?

I'm ordering that this weekend, so if nobody else gets back to you... I will.
