Jean-Luc Godard on ... his next film:
He describes the film thusly: “It’s about a man and his wife who no longer speak the same language. The dog they take on walks then intervenes and speaks. How I’ll do it, I don’t yet know. The rest is simple.” He goes on to say that he is interested in 3D because he likes “when new techniques are introduced. Because it doesn’t have any rules yet.” He might cast his own dog and if he had it his way, he would get Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner to star in the film (but not, as the interviewer suggested, Scarlett Johansson). He continues adding that he was sort of an idiot between the ages of 15 and 25 and regrets not standing up for the Jews during the Holocaust, but then says, “Today, in my own thoughts, I would like to have a critical look at them. I am generally interested in the ‘other’. It’s the same thing with blacks. First, they were colonised, and later everyone acted as if they were just as we are. Of course, a black person can wear glasses and a watch, but this doesn’t make us the same.” Ahem. ![]() |

A 3D talking dog Godard movie with CGI Bogart and Gardner? And who was it that said he is one-dimensional? That's like saying Tarantino movies doesn't have enough people talking. |

Hahah, the whole idea blows my mind. And his last quote there. I mean, I know he's almost 80, but wow. Lol.

The Double Life of Veronique is one of my favorite films thanks to the exquisite cinematography, the soundtrack, the mysterious story, and yes, Irene Jacob's beauty. Every time I've tried to watch just part of it, I've ended up watching the whole thing. That said, I already own the UK Blu-ray, the Criterion DVD and the French DVD. Hmm! I guess I will be selling the Criterion DVD, since it looks like the Blu-ray will have all the same extras.
I have the UK DVD of Fish Tank. Very good film. I nearly pulled the trigger on the UK Blu-ray a few times, since it's region-free and it's been fairly cheap. |

NASHVILLE really screams out Criterion. Mr. Altman is gone but most of the great cast is still around.

I hate that when I don't check this place for a little while, I feel the need to read through all the pages I missed, even though it's usually just a few people getting mad at CG again (in this case more than a few. Including one of the Criterioncast guys, lol). On a positive note, you get to see posts that are a little funnier (or sad, depending on your levels of compassion for other humans) when read at a later date, like these:

Also, the announcements were pretty outstanding. Super excited about the Amarcord upgrade, and there's a few titles that I haven't seen (including Veronique), that I'm really looking forward to checking out. I did have a question that might seem like blasphemy to some of you cinephiles. I've never seen Modern Times, and truth be told, I've never seen much Chaplin stuff at all. I remember seeing a couple of films when I was younger, and remember liking them, but the memory is hazy. Anyway, I'm heading to Barnes tomorrow to pick up NOTH, and I was contemplating a blind buy. Normally I would just rent first, but considering the sale, and the rather large amount of positive feedback on this release, I think I'll just pick it up. Anyone care to share some thoughts on what I should expect, and whether or not it's a good idea? Thanks in advance ![]() Last edited by Juiceboxjerry; 11-15-2010 at 11:07 PM. |
