great! you've seen it!! congratulations. you're not in the group i was referring to.

as far as you thinking it is "terrible", a perfectly valid opinion, but as outside of an opinion as saying that Magic Johnson is a terrible basketball player.

A remake of this film would be a travesty. There needs to be a "hands off" policy to movies such as this in hollywood.

don't believe in remakes of established classics/masterpieces. big difference. maybe the 1910 and earlier version were classics in 1939, I don't know?

I've never understood why some people hate the remakes so much. It's not like you have to watch them.

Holy crap, I'm sorry but Tin Man was one of the worst things I ever saw and doesn't even deserve to be talked about with the original (imho of course ).

As far as the remake goes, I don't mind it and would be interested in checking it out. However, thats what I thought about Tin Man, before I watched it.

Not necessarily. The law of averages these days say you would be watching a remake of another story.

Also, these remakes are origional to a lot of people who have never seen the origional.

No, if the studio $$ actually go to an original script, then how could it go to a remake?

Yes. The studios objective is to make money. They will choose a script they know will make money over an origional script that they have to roll the dice on. It sucks to some, but that's how it is. Otherwise there would be no remakes. Not all origional scripts turn out to be gems.

I understand what you are saying, but thats LAME. Not your statement, the fact that its true is lame. Everytime I hear that a movie is a remake, I immediately seek out and research the origional to find out why there is a remake being made. If its because the original is acclaimed, I see IT.

I'm thinking the reason they make remakes is the almighty $.

Some remakes are good too, better than the origionals occasionally.

A remake of "The Wizard of Oz"...wasn't 1985's "Return to Oz" bad enough?

The original was never one of my favorite films, even as a kid, but I still feel it's a classic that should be left alone...

Actually, there's part of me that kind of likes that the studios keep doing crappy remakes of all the classics, because it gives me even more reason to not bother going to the theater and wasting my money. They may be getting a lot of money from other people, but they're not getting mine...

Come on surfdude, you've got some remakes in your collection so you can't be that opposed to them!

Not all remakes are bad. Not all remakes are good. Judge them like you would any other movie...when you actually see them.

This is where I have problems. If a film was iffy, (Italian Job et al) go ahead and remake it in an effort to get it right. But when a film is widely considered a classic, leave it alone.
