I mean, Warner has to know that the Red side isn't in this to win...so hopefully they see through the green shit that MS throws at them..
I agree they should not HAVE to match $. But they might.

I for one don't feel bad about asking the BDA to spend $.
I think the average person on this forum has a $500 investment in a player or so. As for movie collections, wow there's a lotta money spent there.
And i dont think many of us are rich.

They have asked us to invest in the format's future, I don't think it's out of line to ask them to do the same.

Anything less than outbidding TS for whatever takes to get these on the fence studios to commit is a slap in the face to all of us who have stock in blu. And I consider spending the money on a player and movies to be having Blu stock for all practical purposes.

oh I completely agree...

but you have to realize how big MS pockets are and how desperate they are to make Warner go red and split the studio support almost 50/50...

this is exactly what they want and it helps their investment in downloads...

this is where the BDA has to step up and ask themselves if they want to end the war now...or in a year or two...

a sacrifice has to be made soon as Warner is obviously making a move..and soon..

Seconded. Blu-ray already rules the roost for westerns, so to really go for the jugular we need period pieces like this to put it over the top.

Oh..and Tombstone on blu-ray. Had to fit that one in there for the insiders.

Toshiba yes, but Microsoft are the richest company in the world. Microsoft will win a bribe war with any company (and most countries).

I absolutely hate the thought of this great country becoming a rich banana republic with business decisions being made based upon bribery and not upon market demand. I certainly hope that the executives at Warner have more honesty and class than the filth, corruption and complete lack of morality displayed by Paramount. I do not want to see Microsoft and Toshiba spreading their corruption any further than they have already. I don't want to see American business icons such as Warner going to the highest bribe any more than I'd like to see our politicians do so.

as much as I'd hate to say it...

it's what this country has become...

we're perceived as ignorant and without integrity because of decisons like the Paramount/Dreamworks situation and that's just a spec on the radar...

you have to consider Enron and all sorts of things here...

I think perhaps Warner did show this in turning away Microshiba when they tried to bribe them the first time. Followed shortly by the "stepping down" of Steve Nickerson. I think they told them to "please let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, scumbags". I think they will make their own decision, and there will be no more "promotional incentives", or bribery or whatever going on, at least in relation to WB, I think they have integrity and will take the high road. They could be known as the hero's the ended that format war, and saved hundreds of thousands of red ants more wasted money down the toilet.

Now when Paramount was offered $150 million from Toshiba, why didn't they go to the BDA and say "this is what Toshiba is offering, what can you do for me?" They could have gotten more money and the war would be coming to an end.
Warren Lieberfarb, justifyably the father of DVD, left WB and is now Toshiba's #1 HD DVD shill when it comes to TV and the press

Two men used to work for him

Alan Bell (Paramount's HD DVD poster child) and Steve Nickerson (WB's ex poster child)

Do the math

Ahhh, didn't know that, thanks for that piece of info.

Before Paramount goes BD, there'll probably be a piece of news coming out about Alan Bell, "retiring" from Paramount or stepping down.

So do we get to read into the fact that currently on Amazon.com there is a BOGO on Sony and WB titles with no offer on the dark(red) side? This is supposed to be HD DVD's last great push to win a week for the year with Bourne Ultimatum.

HD DVD is thrashing all they can right now by putting out a zillion Bourne Ultimatum ads (it's every 10 minuts on the NBC-Universal owned channels, aka Sci Fi, USA and co).

Won't change a thing though

Rumor has it, the budget was actually closer to $75 mill….. and you all know about recent Business rumors this Week.
Hopefully, it will become a cult classic for its great music and ride the home media wave more successfully.
Now all we have to do is wait for the announcement.

I'm just saying that it's interesting that Penton would capitalize the "W" and the "B" in his statement. I'm sure it wasn't an accident and the sentence he wrote doesn't really make a whole lot of sense...leading me to believe it wasn't an accident.

Could I make a friendly request that we keep this "insiders thread" to... shocking as it may be... insider discussion?

It's one thing for non-insiders to ask legit questions. It's another for this to just degenerate into yet-another babble-fest of armchair-format-war debate.

I just waded through the four last pages and most every post was just one of "us" blabbing on and on about the format war.

Mods, can you step in and clean up the thread and get us back on track? Delete this post as well when you do!

Default Inexpensive (not cheap!) Blu-Ray Players!

Hey everyone,

I've got some great news! I work at for a large CE distribution company, and we just dropped the price of the Samsung BDP-1400! While I can't quote pricing, it should enable our dealers to sell below $300 retail and still make a bit of profit!

Everyone waiting for less expensive Blu just ran out of excuses!

Good point David and I agree. If members want to discuss rumors or he said, she said, then they can do that in the General Forum or Off Topic Forum, not here. I like others here have intelligence information from contacts within the major corporations who actually know what's going on, when, and so on. From time to time I'd like to share that with others for their benefit. I try to preface my question here with "Please just the facts, not opinion or rumors". Usually that keeps the answers 'somewhat' reliable. Thanks again for bringing this up.

Jim

A Sony Bluray player will be $ 299.00 on 12/16/07. It will be the BDP-S300 .
