Default BD-Releases 2011 ? what can we expect

2010 is just a month away before we have a new year so what can we expect in 2011. ???

I know that starwars comes 4 quarter but what else. ?

I am hope for more films like: Eye of the Needle, Bear island, fear is the key, when eight bells toll, Body double, runaway train, into the night, 1941, jaws, midnight run, smokey and the bandit.

And ofcourse more bond films on bd is something I hope we will see in 2011.

Other than Smokey and the Bandit and maybe Jaws I personally don't see any of those other titles being released in 2011.

I completely agree with both the optimism and the nervousness.

Given the sheer volume of calatog titles I can live with even top-shelf films getting relatively bare-bones releases but quality is key.

Warner's releases of Treasure of the Sierra Madres and The Maltese Falcon hit a pretty good balance, I think. The transfers weren't Casablanca reference but were solid 'A's, decent though not overwhelming supplements and a good price point.

But I think you're right. This is going to be a good catalog year.

Catalog titles that made the company a ton of money will always get better TLC, the lesser known films will always be better then DVD quality but may not be a 5 PQ rating, which is fine by me, because everything looks better on Blu and i will never watch a DVD again

personally i have yet to see a movie that i think looks bad on BD i have been happy with every transfer ive seen and ive seen about 230 BD movies so far, actually the first release of Gladiator looked awful, but now the rerelease is amazing!!

-Once Upon A Time In The West (hopefully with a fantastic transfer, as I think the Dollars Trilogy could do with a new extensive remaster/transfer).

-The Terminator (remastered version, hopefully Aliens-esque quality).

Plus I think with the overwhelmingly positive reviews and kudos for the Aliens remaster, they really ought to go back and do a 4K transfer for Predator. (I can hope).

-Barry Lyndon (those candle-lit scenes..drool)

-The Led Zeppelin dvd (the 2 disc compilation) now on Blu-Ray.

(Star Wars, can't wait for this one).

I also think there will be a lot of catalogue titles for next year, and I think studios will be more weary about doing bad transfers as a) more people are wise to it and b) it's not acceptable anymore.

Another film which could do with a lavish remaster/transfer is the excellent "One Eyed Jacks". It was shot on 70mm and would look fantastic if done right. (The UK dvd is so bad, pretty much a VHS port).

Interesting, didn't know it was turning 30 next year. What other big titles out there are having their anniversary dates? Studios LOVE to milk those dates you know.

I know there were several threads like this, but this is the most recent so anyway...
I was thinking maybe next year we'll finally see the animated Transformers movie on blu stateside to tie-in with the release of Michael Bay's third and final live-action one. It's gonna be the last time to really cash in that way so I hope somebody gets it done. Sony, Shout!, somebody get us a definitive release already!

Yes true but if it doesn't happen in May 2011, don't expect to see it later on in the year. Star Wars is coming to Blu-ray late September-October 2011. Lucasfilm will not release Indy at the same moment.

Another whole year of catalog BDs to look forward to! Personally, I'm hoping for Unbreakable, Rat Race, Rush Hour 2, Dazed and Confused (I think this has already been announced without a date?), Indy, and the original Hitcher (which will be turning 25 and I reckon has a shot for BD release next year).

I'm really hoping Raiders of the Lost Ark will get a 30th Anniversary along with The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade in a boxset. Of course mainly hoping these'll be 2-Discers with tons of extras including the Laserdisc documentaries.
Perhaps a re-release of Superman II with seamless branching? Doubt it since Warner Bros. could have a Blu-ray equivelant of The Ultimate Superman Collection. All BD50, lossless audio and the works. We can certainly keep hoping.
Stripes would be fun too especially if it had seamless branching and all the extras from the DVD.
Other titles which are great for Anniversary tie-ins:
1931 - Frankenstein; Dracula; City Lights; The Public Enemy; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; Little Caesar; Monkey Business; Smart Money; Mata Hari; Anna Christie.

1941 - Sergeant York; They Died with Their Boots On; Citizen Kane; Suspicion; Here Comes Mr. Jordan, Dive Bomber; 49th Parallel; The Wolf Man.

1951 - A Streetcar Named Desire; Strangers on a Train; The Thing From Another World.

1961 - The Guns of Navarone; Breakfast at Tiffany's; Judgment at Nuremberg.

1971 - The Andromeda Strain; Fiddler on the Roof; The Anderson Tapes; Diamonds are Forever; DUEL; Le Mans; Shaft; Straw Dogs; Support Your Local Gunfighter.

1981 - Chariots of Fire; Das Boot; Dragonslayer; GALLIPOLI; Halloween II; The Howling; Outland; Quest for Fire; Scanners.

1991 - Hook; Cape Fear; City Slickers; Thelma & Louise; The Fisher King; Fried Green Tomatoes; Hot Shots!; The Rocketeer; Terminator 2: Judgment Day;

2001 - Amélie; Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups); K-PAX; Vanilla Sky; WASABI; The Others.

And there you have it.
