And I'm pro-digipak, so I can't complain and let you plastic humpers win (I guess they did this one in cheap cardboard because they did the dvd in a plastic case, so they didn't buy a stock of thicker cardboard. No clue.). BBS set starting tonight.
I stopped at B & N for a short time today and noticed that the DVD for Night of the Hunter is in a plastic case (one case), and it's (2) DVDs to boot. Wonder why they opted to do that? Sort of a vice versa with Che...the DVD was a (2) digibook affair and the BD was two separate plastic cases.

Yes, after the cinema release of "Let It Be" the Beatles were embarrassed by it, mainly because it showed the mop tops arguing & being unBeatle like to each other. However that is ancient history now, plus John & George are no longer here. This would be a worthy CC release. Clean up the audio/video, the supplements would be cool, and imagine if you had Paul & Ringo adding audio commentary.

I;m going to throw in a mini review that my laziness never wants to type about. I have seen most of Chaplin's films throughout my interesting life on the tube, big screen, dvd and now on BD and have seen many different documentaries, etc. I must say that I was just blown away by Modern Times in my viewing yesterday. If you have seen silents, in general, they have always had a lack of clarity on whatever format you have viewed, but on CC release, the clarity of Chaplin's face just blew me away. Even on the big screen, here is Chicago, the Music Box puts on festivals occasionally, I didn't quite notice the resolution and pure clarity of Chaplin like I did last night. You can look at many different pictures and screenshots, but to see his face on that CC BD last night just blew me away. Besides the fact that it is a great film and you don't need my review on that, the PQ aspect of it just made me want more Chaplin on BD. I think I am going to import the BD's from the UK, as I have an all-region player and I think all the Park Circus releases are locked. Can anyone that owns those, I think you do CC, clue me in on the quality as compared to Modern Times? The dvd's I have do not even come close to what I saw. What is funny, is that I am a bigger Keaton fan and have the Kino's which was a huge treat when they were announced a while ago. Folks, this film is 75 years old!! and I can say that it looked better than some of the films I have seen come out these days. Honestly, just blown away by CC's work on this.

Criterion's future catalog reissues will be on a format that is superior to both DVD and blu-ray.

I remember those! Saw one at the museum last year. It was right next to phone booth exhibit.

Not sure. It's only one of a handful of titles that Criterion ever released on VHS... two others being "The Third Man" and "The Lady Vanishes."

Not unlike Murnau's "Sunrise" or "City Girl", or Keaton's "The General", which have comparable transfers.

Wow, I had no idea Criterion ever dabbled in VHS at all.. Have some of their great laserdiscs, but wow those VHS are just ugly haha.

Here are my current Criterion blu-rays:

All the classic Beatles films should get the Criterion treatment, even Magical Mystery Tour. Since CC can can get rights to United Artists films now, throw in "The Compleat Beatles" (that one has never had evan a DVD release) as well! I would love a huge box set with them all, one similar to the upcoming BBS set!

They should definitely release all of the Beatles films!
Then if they do that, they should move on and release "Catch Us If You Can" as well. I always did like the Dave Clark Five a little more than the Beatles.

Also, watched The Most Dangerous Game today and enjoyed it. Started watching the commentary track, and to be honest, I haven't really watched too many commentaries before. I assumed they would go hand in hand and discuss what was going on in the film, but the track on this movie seemed a little more off topic and didn't discuss what was currently on screen. Almost like it would make just as much sense reading it as an essay or listening to it as an mp3.
Is that normal, or all they all just varied?

Varied. Some discuss what's going on on screen, anecdotes about what may have happened on/off-screen during that scene, stuff like that. Others just discuss the minutiae, and basically, like you said, dissect it in a way. Is the track for the film done by the filmmaker or someone involved in production, or by a historian/critic?

I'm with you. I hope they don't lose this one before they get the chance for a BR release. My favorite car movie.

Looks great! (although the one user review had issues with the audio it would seem)

I can't wait to check it out.....

I didn't want to start an inter-forum ruckus, so I didn't point it out before, but CG...... did you read the comments from people regarding the Sternberg Silents when it was a lightning deal at Amazon???? haha... What poop-kickers.... "$35 for movies that aren't in color?" Hahahaha

Are you serious? As if they even knew who von Sternberg was...unbelieveable! Or silents for that matter.
