I've never owned these films in any format so I cracked and bought at the 7.99 price.

Why waste $24...? if it was an outstanding transfer and had some new bonus material, I could understand (maybe). But this is pure double-dip, and I want no part of it.

At $8 each, I even scored these movies..........yes, its a double dip, but a cheap one at that.

there's also no guarantee that the EE's will have a new transfer. i hate to think of the back-lash on here if that's the case.

I refused to buy the theatrical editions because I find the extended editions the superior versions. But I may take the bait for $8 lol

Because I'm not sure if the extended editions will ever be released in the near future.

Of course they will be! That's like suggesting your favourite bakery won't ever produce chocolate cupcakes on their newly-updated and much more high-tech manufacturing system because you haven't seen them in a while!

I just don't understand how anyone could pass on these for editions that don't even have release dates. $25 to watch all these on blu-ray is a no brainer!

True if you only like the theatrical editions. I like the extended editions more..not that I think the theatrical versions are bad.. I only want one version of the trilogy.

I had the the theatrical editions on DVD..sold them when I got the extended editions..I just don't feel like doing that again.

ive been waiting for the EE's to come out, but @ $25 for the entire set......i dont see how i could go wrong.

i just double dipped on Avatar and i could care less.

Its true that they are, but I definitely prefer watching the EEs

Ideally, there should be a set that includes BOTH the Theatricals and the EEs in one package.

Im guessing that when the EEs come out, they won't include the theatricals :\

Don't really care to be honest. I like both versions of the films but I like the EE more. And I only want to own one set.

Have all three extended platinum series collector's edition gift sets. But for $23.97 don't mind double dipping. What a deal. Will also get the EE's on blu when they come out.

I went ahead and grabbed them for $8 each. And I'll eventually get the extended ones as well, but I'll wait until there's a good deal on them as well. So in the end, I'll probably pay less to have both versions than most of those who are still skipping the theatrical editions, even at this current price, but will buy the extended ones the split second they come out.

To each there own, there's nothing wrong with doing it that way if that is one's preference.

I know they will be released... but probably not until late 2011 or into 2012.

Absolutely correct. I got the theatrical package a while ago for $20 or so after some discounts, and I'll be getting the EE's too. I just couldn't wait
