In a big rivalry game like this, it oftentimes comes down to coaching. It's games like these where Alabama is probably pretty happy to have Nick Saban pacing the sidelines. That's the whole reason I think Alabama will win, Nick Saban is perhaps the current best in the country.

it can also come down to having the best player in the country on your team....IE vince young in the rose bowl- yes bush won the heisman but USC had no answer for VY..Cam could have the same impact very easily

I'd say you're right. If I could have any coach come to my school and take over the program Saban would be my pick with Urban Meyer second.

correct. and since we're mentioning coaches, Chizik was the DC at Texas that year, as well as the DC at Auburn the year before in 2004 when they were undefeated, so, Chizik isn't a stranger to being a great coach or coaching against great teams, he just wasn't in a head coaching position.

it's definitely going to be a hell of a game, but by no means is bama going to "own" this game. like Gandalf said, Auburn will either lose a close one, or straight up blow bama out. IMO, LSU has a better defense, and while the score seemed close, it really wasn't. Auburn took a knee inside the 3 with 2 minutes left, and could have EASILY picked up another 7 to make it 31-17, but the coaches obviously felt it wasn't necessary. tack on to that, Auburn picked up over 440 yards rushing against them, which is the most they've ever given up in school history.

Alabama are the defending national champions, I am hoping they don't lay down and die against Auburn.

I have a hard time believing they will. It's the final home game for the seniors and I'm sure they'll give 100%. I'd give Alabama a slight edge. Either way I'd be very surprised if the game is decided by more than about a touchdown.

The best part is that game should be over by the time I go to work, should be the best game of the year really.

Talk about a disasterous season. Texas finished 5-7 and missed playing in a bowl game after their 1-loss national title game appearance last year. Mack Brown is very lucky he has a national title to fall back on.

Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette predicts that the losing coach of today's Backyard Brawl (Pittsburgh-West Virginia) will be fired at the end of the season. I think that's true with West Virginia coach Bill Stewart but am not sure if Pittsburgh would fire Dave Wannstadt. He won 10 games last year and 9 games 2 years ago. Pittsburgh has been a disappointment this year at 6-4 after starting the season ranked 15th but I still think Wannstadt would get another year.

Stewart has never been very popular at West Virginia and was only hired after winning the Fiesta Bowl as the interim coach when Rich Rod bolted for Michigan, a hire many believed was fueled by emotion from the big victory without taking the proper time to evaluate other candidates. The program has undoubtedly gone down hill since then and if the Mountaineers fail to make a BCS bowl in the horrible Big East this year they'll likely be looking for a new coach. Current athletic director Oliver Luck (Andrew's dad) didn't hire Stewart and may decide to bring in someone new.

LOL@Texas losing 17-24 to the Texas A & M Aggies. One could argue that there are two teams in Texas better than the Longhorns, wonder when the last time was that that happened.

no arugment needed really, TCU would beat Texas, and it would probably be fairly easy, 2 touchdowns at least

There's more than 2 teams in the state better than Texas. They lost to both Baylor and A&M, and nobody would argue they are worse than TCU. Houston probably would have been better than them if they didn't lose QB Case Keenum and his backup for the season. I also would argue that right now Texas Tech is better than Texas, but Texas beat them early in the season. Even SMU might be able to compete with Texas right now.

I agree. There's no question TCU is much better than the Longhorns this year too. Baylor is also better than Texas. Like I said it's a good thing Mack Brown has a national title and 2 national title game appearances to fall back on. He better get the team back on track next year though. You can't have two really bad years in a row and expect to have a job at Texas.

Have decided not to watch Auburn and Alabama, will be regularly checking ESPN.Com for updates though, can't wait to find out who wins that one.

With Pittsburgh being soundly beaten by West Virginia, it looks like UCONN is now in the driver's seat for the Big East. Man did Alabama look good on their first drive, let's hope Auburn's defense settles down and makes some adjustments.

and that was some terrible officiating at the end of that drive too. bama holding on nearly every play and that PI call was one of the worst i've ever seen.

14-0, wondering how hard Auburn is playing in this one, although it sounds like the officials are giving Alabama a hand.
