I'm not a big fan of Dick Tracy but I do love Daffy Duck's character Duck Twacy. "Neon noodle!!!"

I thought I remember hearing that Beatty is in a battle with Touchstone over distribution and ownership rights, and that is why we have not seen it.

I remember liking the movie as a kid, and think it would make a great Blu-ray release. There were a lot of different colors for the costumes and backgrounds, if I remember correctly, which would make seeing the film in High Def even better.

As for similar films, one I can think of that came out around the same year (I think) that would fit your description would be The Rocketeer. A childhood favorite of mine, that I would certainly get on blu-ray.

I'd second The Rocketeer, as Disney's other big art-budget attempt to cash in on the 1989 Batman machine--
And like Tracy, was gorgeously stylized to look at, but missed the audience mark at the time with too much atmosphere.

(As for Tracy, I loved what it was trying to DO, but if only somebody besides Warren Beatty had had the idea--The visual stylizing is amazing, if only Beatty didn't keep pushing the action aside to do musical montages.)

But since you meant "similar" to Tracy, maybe now's a good time to start re-appreciating Alec Baldwin in "The Shadow".

lol, yep. I have both the rocketeer and the shadow. I enjoyed both. Also I must throw in a mention for the movie "cool world" as well.

I love Dick Tracy. I'd love to get the rights and do a film adaption once I get my studio up and going.

It should be a treat on HD - the entire film was allegedly shot using only the colors that would have been available in the Sunday papers in the 30's and 40's - in other words, something like only 7 colors used in the whole movie.

Didn't care for it as a kid, but I saw it a few years ago and found it fairly enjoyable. If they Blu-Ray it, I will buy it.

Same for "The Shadow," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," and "The Rocketeer."

Dick Tracy is great. I would love to have a deluxe special edition of this on BD, but doubt it will ever happen.
