The Double Life of Veronique

1991 R 97 minutes

This movie made me melt in my chair. I was content to just sit there and let it all unfold before me. I spent no calories or brain cells attempting to arrive at (the) (a) truth. There are questions that go unaswered, but this film knows how to present the mysteries in a fashion that doesnt leave the viewer unsatisfied. At the end, I was comfy with the theory (even though its unneeded) that I arrived at.

Its beautiful to look at. The framing and colors and lens work created an atmosphere that really worked for me. I also enjoyed the subtle way the camera moved and the pacing.

The acting? Pffft.... Irene Jacob steals the show.

A little romantic, a little mysterious, a little haunting, very touching.

4.25/5

Recommended as a relaxing thinker art piece.

Excellent. It's a haunting film and the story stays with you. I'm looking forward to another viewing.

I watched this movie on Netflix online because I was trying to find a good indie-film after really enjoying (500) Days of Summer.

Basic storyline - Two lost souls, Nina, a waitress, and Jose, a chef, find solace in each other as their lives become unpredictably linked throughout the course of one incredible day.

I can't give too much away because it would ruin the movie.

It has good acting, a very nice story, and a beautiful payoff in the end. If you want to watch a good indie film that doesn't have(need) any sex, violence, or car chases in it, this is a worthwhile film.

I really enjoyed it.

7.5/10
Solid indie. I gave it 3 stars (out of 4). It could've been much better than it was, but it was still a very good film with great acting.

So pleased you saw it. It's one of the most memorable and haunting films I've seen, along with The Werckmeister Harmonies. I like the fact that despite the incredible complexity of the film, you were able to sit back and just enjoy it as a straight forward film without getting too wrapped up in interpretation. That's one thing I love about it--you can spend forever thinking about it and analyzing it, but then you can also just watch it as a more straight forward film.

Nobody wants to say one and done but I will say it regarding Fast and Furious, for some reason I don't like most movies centered around stuff like street racing.

Do any like David Lynch fans who have to watch 17 hours of football every week and live on pizza?

Steve, or anyone who has seen The Double Life of Veronique, I have a question. Why did she rub her eye with a ring? My question isnt why BOTH did it, I get that, its simply WHY did they do it. Am I clueless? I've never met anyone who does that.

Probably tomboys who love Italian food, even if it isn't authentic. Will be watching Twilight Eclipse tomorrow, hope Ashley Greene is in it a lot.

I can't think straight because I just watched Inception for the first time.

Maybe the director just wanted to choose a trait that both shared which was highly unusual. The fact that you have never met anyone that does that is probably why he chose it?

There's a scene in Moon which reminds me somewhat of the whole idea too.

If I had to, and I am glad that I dont feel that I must, one theory I had is that
[Show spoiler]they were twin sisters separated at birth, perhaps adopted by two different families. The film never goes into the origins of the families deeply enough to dispell that.

Or, its just some cool, mystical connection between two people.

Either way you slice it, its a cool film. Ponder, ponder, ponder.

You should like it then because that movie is far from centered on street racing, in fact, it doesn't even have anything to do with actual street racing

Well, what I was trying to get at was, this guy just doesn't seem to have any strong attractive(physical or mental) qualities about him at all. The movie played him out to be a very............ blahhhh guy.

Yojimbo.

A very very good movie about Samurais.
I can see storng correlation with what Kurosawa did and many modern movies. (especially westerns).
Seing how good this movie was, I can only guess how good Seven Samurai will be.

The only con was that it was a little cheese and unnatural feling at times, but than again it might be the point of the movie or even it might reflect reality better at that old times.

Will add to my blu collection once the price is right.

4.75/5
