After the BS news of a Meridian player, Amir denying it, then a press releasing saying NO PLAYER, how can anyone trust a word he says anymore? Hes like a executive version of TSD.
BTW, is amir's job on the line if HD-DVD loses? If so, he should prep that resume! |

During the Vs conference at CES, he said his job is to make sure HD-DVD does not die. If it does, which it will, i wonder the consequences.

Yep. Notice he didn't say his job was to help HD DVD succeed. It only has to survive.
What an ally! As has been said many times: Microsoft doesn't give a damn about HD DVD. What they care about is VC-1 use for content. And stopping further use of Java. |

I don't understand why Toshiba continues to support MS as they have no stake in the X360, which is going to Microsoft's primary digital distribution device in the future. The only thing that Toshiba are getting is the Zune contract which we all know is worth practically nothing. I really don't understand that company. |

CE division of Toshiba is not as good as its PC division. So, keeping good relationship with Microsoft is far important matter for them.
Also, Toshiba have not invested much money to HD DVD itself. They doesn't develop replication system (Memory-Tech and other replication system manufacturers are doing this), doesn't develop LSIs, doesn't develop complicated software stack for players (LSI vendors and Microsoft are doing this), didn't develop format itself initially (HD DVD was originated from NEC's technologies). That's the huge difference between Toshiba and other BDA companies. If Toshiba could get licensing fee in return for much less investment with heavy support by Microsoft, Toshiba's "long term" strategy would "win". |

Again, I just must wonder: For those poor souls that find themselves actually being stockholders and shareholders in Toshiba...when the hell do they finally have enough of this slow suicide and start making noise? Even almighty MS's stock and share status isn't going to be immune to this slowly but surely expanding black hole of futility that HD-DVD already is even now. |

This reminds me of a question I have... where is NEC?
The drive in the A1 is NEC and it has data sheets and all on NEC websites but never was sold standalone (I am sure we were 'told' it would). So... has NEC given up on the format? The other obvious question is... where is the Sanyo player? Not trying to troll against HD DVD or anything but these are valid questions I think.... |
