Okay, I understand. I like Inception FOR FUN, like you. This was about me having a problem with comparing it to a "artsy" film that has nothing in common, trying to make Inception out to look like a "smarter film".

When we're not watching films, we're usually all huddled around the webcams on our computers in our designer robes, smoking pipes, and speaking very intellectually about films. I enjoy both films but I recognize Marienbad is in another league. Inception is one of the best films of 2010. Marienbad is one of the best films ever created (at least in the ones I've seen ).

Plus, seeing Marienbad on the big screen is freakin' amazing. 90 hypnotic minutes

Har har. This actually says a lot about this site. I don't know who here is on Mubi, but here there is some sort of sarcasm and humor, and there it is very much an all-out war for some sort of intellectual dominance.

I am a pedestrian that has given films like Aliens, Inception, and The Matrix, the same scores as Last Year at Marienbad, Claire's Knee, and Through a Glass Darkly, so I guess I've just never going to be taken seriously anywhere. Shucks.

All of us enjoy movies made for entertainment by the Hollywood system. Many great, classic films have come out of the Hollywood system. Anyone can watch TCM's "Moguls And Movie Stars" and figure that out.

We only come off as "snobs" when we try to correct, or make a point, that others may not know much about. I guess we can't help it that we're, for the most part, all a bit cynical and sarcastic. Blame our parents. Just don't blame CG's mom, though, 'cause then I'll have something to say about that.

Well I'm not as a "snob" as people believe. The thing is, I dislike films that people try to push to be more than they are, and when I do that, it looks like I am a snob. But really, as I said again and again, one of my fav films of last year was/is Halloween 2. I much prefer films that pisses people off due to anything thing goes vision of the director and not some well-put-together "thinking" film like Inception. That is snobby to me.

The answer to your question is "no," but I still think it's still a bad analogy. Boll is an extreme. Nolan is more in the middle - popular but not pandering.

Had Boll made Uwe Boll's Inception, it'd have been way under the radar, most people who'd even heard of it probably would've avoided it based on his track record regardless of any positive buzz, and it might have eventually developed into a cult classic over time. So in that case, it might've actually been better regarded than Nolan's Inception because it would've "earned" it - it wouldn't have been an over-hyped WB summer tentpole release (and it would have legitimized all of the Boll fans who then would have gone and replaced the Nolan fans in your analogy - paradox! ).

Very well said. You make me want to watch Boll's Inception now. I was trying to go the simple route (taking away Boll's extreme ways), and just think "who is the most hated man today" and thought of him to compare to the very much loved Nolan.

And yeah, I understand where you guys are coming from. My problem is just the overwhelming feeling I get from more Mubi and my schooling: people "into" films will only watch "obscure" and "art house" stuff, which as I've said, just makes cinema boring in my opinion. I tend to take "art" less seriously than most of my peers, so maybe that makes me the weirdo. I have no problem with cynicism and sarcasm. I enjoy coming here more than other places now, things tend to be lighter in tone.

Fair enough. I hated the first Zombie Halloween, but one of my friends said the second was surprisingly really well shot or something of the sort.

Yeah, the first Zombie film was trying to stay loyal to the fans of Carpenter. The second was balls out, Carpenter who?, Halloween legacy what?, 16mm Zombie flick.
