[Show spoiler]yeah, not gonna happen. i was semi interested in seeing the film, but by the 13 minute mark i was and shut it off. i used to never shut off films early. i used to finish everything i started, no matter how terrible, and while 12 Angry Men obviously isn't terrible, it was good enough to make me want to spend 90 minutes with it.

what pushed me over the limit was when
[Show spoiler]the 1 guy who says "not guilty" has no reason for saying it and "just wants to talk"
that made me go "ugh, oh crap. not gonna listen to this" and then turn it off. if i was in that room with him i would have already had a strong urge to beat him to death right then and there for wasting my time.

a film i was curious about because i heard it was very profound and had some great performances. however, i won't be able to judge that because i didn't make it that far. watched 13 minutes and knew this wasn't something i cared to watch any longer.

score:incomplete. did not / will not finish.
Bear you're killin me. LBVS!!!

Well, that settles that then!

[Show spoiler]It ocurred to me earlier today that maybe Cobb was dreaming only during the film's last few minutes, when he's reunited with his kids, while the rest of the movie is "real." But I can accept that it's all real too.

I thought the film's last shot was a nice touch though.

Charade (Criterion)

Director: Stanley Donen
Writers: Peter Stone, Peter Stone
Mains: Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Matthau

"Whats your real name?"

Plot (IMDb): Romance and suspense in Paris, as a woman is pursued by several men who want a fortune her murdered husband had stolen. Who can she trust?

My Take: This review might be a little short because i saw the movie about 4 days ago and just got around to writing a review. From what i can remember this was a pretty good film. No Hitchcock but its still a good little twisty thriller. What i enjoyed the most was the acting. Really really good, and everyone knows a good story mixed with good acting makes a great experience. Charade is a movie that can be watched multiple times so its replay value isn't bad at all. Not sure why this is Criterion flick??? Cary Grant??? But overall this is a good flick and worth the viewing. Its was a fun ride and i cant wait to ride it again but in the front seat. There are many mystery movies that are either telegraphed or just not interesting, this film doesnt fall into either category. If you like this genre you will like this flick.

Conclusion: Charade is a fun flick to watch with a companion. Its bent around mystery and love. Somewhat of a dramedy but with a very good story. Cary Grant is a very charming (no homo) and strong actor, he plays he role to the tee. So fans of him or mystery movies will enjoy this fun little ride. Recommended!

Yeah that ended allot of theories but al least he treats his audience with respect. He could of easily kept his mouth closed and people will continue to argue about the ending. I LOVE NOLAN.

however, with that said, whatever my feelings on a film (negative or positive) i don't see how that's adding a negative atmosphere to the thread when i'm just being honest.
I bounce around 3 main interests. Cars, photography and film. When one gets stale, I somehow find rejuvenated interest in another. It's not a conscious decision, it just happens. I don't fight it and I don't make excuses. Why force yourself to enjoy a hobby? Like you said, it ends up feeling like work which stresses you and that's not good for your personal health. Go smell some flowers bear.

Synopsis from Netflix.

In this charming contemporary musical helmed by John Carney, a street musician (Glen Hansard) in Dublin, Ireland, strikes up a friendship with a migrant street hawker (Markéta Irglová), and the duo ends up composing and recording a series of songs over the course of a week. The tunes mirror their burgeoning romance and help the young busker release his musical passions. The actors wrote the tunes they perform, winning an Oscar for their efforts.

The film opens with "Guy" playing guitar in the streets for change. Guy is also a vacuum repair man by day. Quite soon he bumps into "Girl" who peddles magazines and flowers in the same area. She likes his tunes. They talk. Guy learns that Girl plays piano. Their relationship strengthens as they begin to play music together, at his place, in music stores, anywhere. Girl helps Guy complete some of his unfinished works. Romance may bud, but other circumstances from both of their pasts must be dealt with.

This movie grabbed me from the opening scene. Perhaps because I loved Guy's music so much. You cant put more heart and emotion behind a tune than he did. Add Girl's delicate piano playing and supporting vocals and I was owned for the next 90 minutes. The first time they played together, casually in a music store, the connection through music that these two made was a joy to watch. At the same moment, I felt as if I were connected to both of them, somehow, strongly.

There was something very magical about this onscreen couple and I cared about them deeply. The chemistry was palpable and thay both did fantastic jobs. Forget that they arent professional actors, they were just at home in front of the camera.

The story is a little clumsy and akward at first, and this is perfect because thats how new relationships and possible romances often begin. I suppose my own life experiences and past relationships helped me to love this film as much as I did, but I really believe that anyone who loves music and positive relationships would really enjoy it.

I wont go into camerawork, editing or other aspects of the filmmaking process because thats not what this was about for me. It was all about music, human connection and emotion. I'm sure the budget was microscopic, and for this story, about these characters, it is pefectly fitting.

I was bowled over by how much I loved this film. These types of "hit me hard" pictures are few and far between for me, and I am grateful that I stumbled onto this. It needs a Blu-ray (lossless audio) release.

5/5

Thanks Steve for your recommendation. It was they "way" you reviewed it that told me what I would find in this film. And it was there, simply, deeply and richly poignant.
Thanks for the review Squid (and by extension, Steve). In case you missed it, there is a Blu-ray release; it is region free and only £6.99. Mine has dispatched and will hopefully arrive before the New Year .

Eagle Eye

I am going to get some flak for saying this but I think Shia LaBeouf is a decent actor. I do think that he shouldn't go for these blockbuster roles and think that an independent film would be a breathe of fresh air.

That said i thought this movie was alright. The plot is interesting with the whole deus ex machine thing, but it comes off a little stale at times. I think it makes a great point that our society is moving towards that big brother mentality but lacks any depth in trying to explore that notion.

The acting is alright, the disc itself has a pretty good AQ and PQ, and it was somewhat entertaining.

Restrepo: Afghan Outpost Documentary

Directors: Tim Hetherington, Sebastian Junger

"Hearts and Minds"

Plot, Storyline (IMDb): A year with one platoon in the deadliest valley in Afghanistan.

My Take: We've seen many movies that represent the war in Afghanistan, many films that show us the life of s U.S. Solider. Shows that show the life of a Soldier i.e. Generation Kill but this documentary his the hard cold truth about the war in general. Especially the war on terrorism. This raw uncut (well some what) Documentary shows us the grit of war and the impact that it has on soldiers. I absolutely LOVED this film. I only had on issue. I felt like that it wasn't as raw and uncut as it could of been. I do realize that National Geographic couldn't air everything due to national security.

On with the review, I thought that this doc was very intense. You cant get the message delivered any better than the real deal. I take my hats off to the camera men of the this crazy doc. They hung in through the intense moments. The doc really touch the realism of comradery and war. Its real drama and action brought right to your home. You instantly feel for the lost and understand the life of a soldier and how political this war was. We are here to win the Hearts and Minds of the Afghan locals. Pretty hard to accomplish and you will see why.

Conclusion: If you like war movies there shouldn't be anything keeping you from watching this amazing film. National Geographic has taken you into the heart of the the war inside the deadliest valley in Afghanistan. Not to be rude but you'd be a fool not to watch this film. No special effects, no acting, this is REAL AND VERY UNCUT the only.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Its raw and gritty, just not as raw as i wanted it to be. Remember its done by the US so it will not show everything it should...

Yep, I own the UK import of Once and it's decent considering the low budget. Audio does the job too.
