Default Prima Cinema offering first run movies: for $500 a pop (and $20,000 install)

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...googlenews_wsj

Surprised no one posted this here?

I wanted to make a comment about this. A person that wants to watch a first run movie by himself and is willing to spend $20,000 for the install and $500 a pop just to play it on his flat panel, this is BORDERLINE RIDICULOUS.

However, I do see there is a benefit to using this, and it actually makes sense. I think this is actually made for large (private) venue screenings of first run movies for people that own their theater chains that are not bound by contract of big name theater chains (regal, AMC) or by studios. If you were to cut the admission price by half or a third of the price, you can significantly increase audience participation and more people will come to YOU and the profits all come to YOU, not the studio. In this way, this is an excellent idea for a digital cinema owner, and you can even keep the masters of the films instead of burning them.

This would be awesome for people who want to start there own small theater chain. 500 a movie would be awesome!

Hate to drag an old thread up but it looks like this product is getting closer to reality.

Price has gone up to $35k.

I could see me investing in this if I won the lotto. My current 'dream' projector is the Sony VPL-VW1000ES so what's another $10k between friends?

That is totally cool, in a "I will never own that" kind of way.

I just picked up two of these - one installed in my yacht and the other in my summer chateau.

True that. Nothing is certain but death, taxes, and the ability to purchase better electronics for your dollar as time goes by. That means I'll get my grubby hands on that 4K projector someday. On the other hand, I have less faith Hollywood will let me unleash my grubby eyes on first run movie in my home for anything less than an actual house payment. That won't stop me from buying it when I win the Power-ball.

So is it 35k for the unit + 500 for every movie I want? Or is it just a straight 35k? I'd be down with dropping 35k once... But 500 a pop no thanks.
