great point. it does remind me a lot of his performance in Reign Over Me, just with more hair and being effected by an outside circumstance.

I loved the beginning. The crash and the piano, both right out of left field. Random as hell. And the picture had a cold odd look too.

first time i watched it was like, 15 so i wasn't really able to follow or understand at all. a few times later i was like, "this is so quirky and amazing. going from talking about pudding, to car accident, to mysterious piano..." so wild.

Actually I didnt laugh. I had the opposite reaction. Barry's disorder is a very real and HUGE problem for him. He has lived an internally tortured life. He spends all day every day tormented by his own mind, and he has a high enough IQ to understand that it is his OWN MIND that causes the suffering. He is constantly at an emotional precipice that he must either back away from (insecurity/safety) or jump with both feet (rage). The middle ground where you and I feel comfortable is a danger zone for him. I felt empathy when he smashed the doors because he had been pushed too far and snapped, all the while he was trying NOT to smash the doors. It was an uncontrollable and almost involuntary release for him, yet he knew it was wrong and bad.

That scene certainly succeeded at making me uncomfortable. It was very well done. I was cringing when the gal asked for his SS#. I also thought all the phone calls to

[Show spoiler] blackmail him

were done well.

yeah. she was so demanding and forceful and Barry seemed so 'weak' and unable to defend himself. and it was on a phone call! ugh. just thinking about it makes me shiver.

That was my second viewing. The first was years ago. I am interested in seeing it again someday to see what else I may find in it.

i admire what he did for The Machinist, but the actual ACTING and whatnot i thought wasn't anything to write home about. it wasn't bad. just wasn't something that came across as memorable. how he LOOKED did of course, but not the actual performance imo.

haven't seen American Psycho.

There is a scene in AP where he is crying and freaking out on the phone to his lawyer. Its one of the best performances I have ever seen. Truly unreal.

Hmmmmm. As far as filmmaking goes, its a bit lower. But as far as my enjoyment level, it would be right behind There Will be Blood.

Dude. If that was in her house in a closet, she wouldnt even enter the front door. Clowns freak her out to a completely irrational level of horror. Walking up to her with a clown mask would be like dangling an acrophobic out a 20 story window.
