Can't wait for it. I saw he film at the London Film Festival and its fairly high up on my personal top ten of the year list. I was quite surprised by the muted reaction from some quarters tho, with a lot of people I know not getting on with it at all.

I spoke to New Wave about this a few days back, and enquired about Godard's Film Socialisme hitting Blu-ray. "Should be" was their response.

personally I thought 'Syndromes and A Century' is Apichatpong Weerasethakul's best film. (and for the record I saw 'Uncle Boonmee' at last month's Virginia Film Festival)

Great news. It will be great to see someone like this on Blu-ray as his work will really benefit being on Blu-ray.

New Wave Films is apparently run by someone who was a big part of Artificial Eye, so it is great to see them finally release their first Blu-ray.

Agree 100%. Great company with a great selection of films. They just need to start bringing them to Blu-ray

Excellent. I have a feeling that this may not be released in the USA anytime soon, and that when it is, it may well be DVD-only.

Hopefully this a good regionfree transfer, although I've heard that it didn't look very stunning on the big screen due to the 16mm source.

Regardless, I think Strand bought the distribution rights for US, and that means we are only going to get an interlaced dvd from them.

It looked fantastic in cinemas. It's a beautiful looking film, but does have a very distinctive "look", in that each of the six reels were shot in a different style so I can imagine why some might find it jarring.

Black Swan was also shot in 16mm and looked beautiful (I actually thought it was digital initially).

Let's hope it gets a good high def transfer then

Sorry for double posting, but I'm considering reordering this and would like to know New Waves Film's reputation when it comes to dvd transfers.

Most of them are very good, but there are a couple of disappointing ones. Let me know which films you are interested and I could probably comment (I have pretty much all of them).

Thanks, I was interested in only Uncle Boonmee. Since they never released a Bluray before, I figured their dvd transfers would be the best indication. Don't want to end up with a single layered full of halos, you know.

I sent an email to New Waves Film inquiring as to whether the disc will be dual layered, here's the reply:

Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,

It will be dual layered as there’s quite a few extras – details will be on our website by the end of the week.

Best regards

It's such a shame that Strand bought the distribution rights for the United States, because now there will be no Blu-ray release. I hate Strand so much. Their picture quality of their DVD releases is atrocious, and unfortunately their DVDs are the only way to watch Joe's films in the US. Uggghh.

I have to agree with you, Strand is up there with Facets for continually putting out the worst quality releases, and those are my two worst distributors. You have to applaud them for releasing quality films, but you have to wonder whether they are actually doing good by releasing the films; as if they didn't release them, another company might do a much better job.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Add Vanguard to the list as well.

The extras for the UK, New Wave blu are listed on their site now:

Quote:
Extras on the DVD and BluRay include:
Filmed interview with Apichatpong Weerasethakul
40 minutes of deleted scenes
A Letter to Uncle Boonmee (short film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
Essay by Apichatpong Weerasethakul The Memory of Nabua
I am glad they included A Letter to Uncle Boonmee as I missed it when it was a free stream on MUBI (granted it's only a $1 now).

I really did like this film though I'll be honest and admit i didn't "get" a lot of it. I'm curious how the viewing experience will be at home with the distractions of the world around.
