Steve, I see Ganges is in your collection, but unwatched as of yet. Now that one I found fantastic. Its strength is Galapagos' weakness, variety. It has a more powerful draw, and made me hungry to learn more and more with each episode. Really good when you find the time.
Time is the issue. I had 40 unwatched movies a month ago and now I'm down to two, plus Ganges, the Rocky Collection and V series 1 of those actually in my possession. A minimum of four are due to be delivered tomorrow though.

I'll probably see Ganges next week.

11 hours of football to watch today...

This is a story in two distinct parts. The film opens by showing a relationship between Alex, who works for a pimp; and Tamara, one of the prostitutes and his girlfriend. The two want to escape their unpleasant lives, so Alex devises a scheme to rob a bank. He takes Tamara along, although she's not involved in the robbery.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, something does. The story completely changes. Alex spends the rest of the film helping out his grandfather and living on a farm. Two other characters have prominent roles and affect the story in important ways.

It's an interesting look at how events can change people's lives. Also how strange bargains can be struck when the overall needs of the people involved are considered.

I have never seen anything quite like it. I think it will have a lot of replay value.

The presentation is just about perfect. Especially the shots in the countryside which make up over half of the film.

4.5/5
There is a lot to like, and so many layers.

I found it touching near the end of the film when Alex was
[Show spoiler]picking up his Grandfathers apples with care. So much had changed by the time we arrived at that part of the movie.

The grandfather was a very realistic character.

I thought that the tension owed more than a nod to Hitchcock when
[Show spoiler]Alex was trying to decide whether to kill the cop and spared him because he showed remorse and it was agenuine accident
. I like how the scene at the
[Show spoiler]shooting range
established that it was possible.

It's largely about people
[Show spoiler]taking the law into their own hands. The cop's wife deciding that it was OK to allow Alex to stay free because she liked what he did for his grandfather and saw a need for his freedom

I also like the way
[Show spoiler]the two were tied together by having to trust each other due to what the other knew or could do to their future.

I have driven past all the local ones and no go. There is ONE theater in Spokane Washington that has it. ONE. Spokane aint exactly a speck of a town. Sheesh. If it doesnt show up on the 22nd I'll drive to Spokane. It's not that far really, about an hour in good weather. Its just a notorious section of highway and we have had a pretty good dose of the white stuff so far this year. There are constant multicar chain reaction pileups. You know, with one guy at fault and 40-100 victims with totalled cars.

That's not true--Malick's films have been nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Days of Heaven won best cinematography (and Malick won best director at Cannes and won best director at the National Society of Film Critics, among others). The Thin Red Line was nominated for seven academy awards, including best director and best adapted screenplay (which were all Malick). The New World was nominated for best cinematography.

On a non-awards level, Malick is always considered one of the greatest American filmmakers. Days of Heaven was named the greatest film of all-time by Slant magazine. The New World was named the best film of the 2000s in January of this year by the San Francisco Chronicle. Badlands has been called the best film of the 70s by multiple critics and publications. The Thin Red Line has been called the greatest war film of all-time by many critics and publications.

Boy that was a short break from films!

Just pulling your leg. I usually use the title box because it looks neater. No problem though, I can definitely see that.

i know
i was gonna wait till January-ish, but then The Town came out and sped things up a bit.
i realized this morning though that wanting to slow down and jam so many films together in a short span was already failing when i watched three films yesterday so today is all about football for me

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Director: Michel Gondry
Writers: Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry
Mains: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet and Tom Wilkinson

Plot (IMDb): A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.

My Take: This movie is pretty unique the story is similar to others but they way its told makes it a little different. I thought the characters were amazing in their roles and i thought the Direction was TOP NOTCH. Great cinematography and the story was told well. I didnt think the movie was perfect with all these great things. There were allot of dry parts in the movie that i didnt really care for. It was neat to see how well they mended together in Joel's memories. Seeing how much they had in common and how they could actually work. I enjoyed the little twist at the end with the Dr. The ending of the entire movie was pretty mediocre. I just didnt feel the 5/5 that many people give this film. I still thought it was a good film but not Great.

Conclusion: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a unique little movie that any viewer could watch. Its a good drama and its told very well. I cant say that it was great because i found myself enjoying (500) Days of Summer and Groundhog day allot more! Still a good movie but my expectations where a little bit high than what i received. I wanted to give the movie a 4.5/5 for the way the story was told but my dislikes have brought it down to a 4/5.

Recommended

4/5

Note: The PQ is strong as time but soft at times. 4/5 The AQ is pretty good too. 4/5

Groundhog Day

Director: Harold Ramis
Writers: Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis
Mains: Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliott

What would you do if you lived the same day over and over?????

Plot (IMDb): A weatherman finds himself living the same day over and over again.

My Take: Ok, to tell you the honest truth this movie has ALLOT of plot holes but i still enjoyed it very much. Nothing is explained at all about his condition or why he's going through. I don't know if the director wants you to decide yourself or its just a hole. None the less this movie is GREAT. It has allot of replay value and its pretty neat. All you can do is ask yourself what would you do in his position. The movie is hilarious and you cant forget it. Its a film that you can watch with the entire family. I would go so far to in calling it a classic. This film isnt perfect at all but i enjoyed ever min of it with my 2nd viewing. The first time i saw it i was impressed but disappointed at the same time because of the holes in the plot.

Conclusion: Bill Murray is awesome and the story is awesome. I cant see why any regular person wouldn't enjoy this cool movie of chance and fate. The replay value is great and the story is great. If you show the slightest bit of interest in this film go GET IT.

HIHGLY RECOMMENDED

4.5/5
