which is partly why i love the film because of the universal question it asks:
[Show spoiler]would you erase a relationship that ends badly, or keep it? keeping it leaves it there so you can learn from it an grow, but to be able to erase the pain, anger, confusion and loss might be attractive to some. and while Kirsten's character maybe shouldn't have done what she did, she obviously changed her mind and felt having memories erased was a bad choice of doing things.
and i liked how it showed that
[Show spoiler]even though you can have your memory erased of some things, you could ultimately find yourself back in that position again, which makes you wonder, is it true love? she fell in love with the doctor at least twice. which may mean something
I agree with you for the most part i just didnt like what she did. I was furious. It felt very selfish! But it was cool that they
[Show spoiler]would of ended up together either way.

[Show spoiler]Why the F is it called "Antichrist?" Is it the guy? Is it the girl? Do they collectively represent the totality of the human race? If so, does this film suggest that the human race will tear itself apart? What does the dead child represent (if anything)? Are they in Hell? Are they in the garden of Eden? Or some perverse antithesis of it? What's with the wheel in the leg? What does it mean (if anything)? Why does the woman go berserk? What is with the three beggars thing? Are there any other metaphysical questions I missed?! Or am I just overthinking it?!!

I suppose different people will apply different levels of thought to a movie. But for this one, I really felt I could spend hours dissecting it and drafting a multipage essay trying to interpret it. That's just me though.
Believe me you werent alone. Im still thinking about it now. I wish more people could appreciate movies like this. That way i could talk to normal poeple about it

also, i was gonna say this before but forgot, i hope you don't mind my "technical score" score rating that i give in my reviews now. to be honest, i got the idea from you (from where you put entertainment, story, film and other options) in a sense, but also got it from watching the likes of A Clockwork Orange and The Aviator: films that are incredibly well made on a "film" level (costumes, directing, score, et cetera) but just didn't enjoy that much.

and i felt having a 'technical' score and an 'enjoyment' score would make it easier to separate. but looking at it now i see that i'm almost stealing your idea and didn't want you to think that

sorry Al if you cared or noticed at all
I did notice and I thought it was cool.

I started it up with the similar thinking you had, and determined there were these three criteria that affect my enjoyment of all films in general (entertainment, story, film), with intellectual/emotional (and recently the "controversial" factor) impact being optional.

I like "GI Joe" because it's all action and little of anything else.

I like "Life is Beautiful" because it's a great story and provoked some thought.

I like "Antichrist" because the visuals are spectacular, even if the story is weak. I also like it because it made me think a whole lot.

If you really judge/enjoy films the same way, then go ahead and keep on breaking them down, by all means! I don't mind.

For all the hype around Gainsebourg, i thought Dafoe was better. Mr. Overthetop played it prettty cool during those scenes. I think sometimes critics give undo praise to the crazy roles. I'd choke a b**ch too.

did you laugh when
[Show spoiler]the fox spoke
? i did. for about 3 minutes. i wasn't expecting it at all and the
[Show spoiler]voice
was hilariously... "off". but maybe i'm just sick and twisted in the head. for such a serious film that moment really didn't seem to fit in with the film (serious wise).

well, it was a long time ago, but let's just say that it's one of my all time favorite ghost stories--

it's such a classy film, yet very scary as well-- Deborah Kerr is outstanding in it and the great thing about this film is that it's never made completely clear what's real and what's imagined (trying not to give anything away)

to me it's kinda like the CASABLANCA of ghosts stories-- as you watch it you know immediately that it's a film way above the rest of it's type-- there's so much style, atmosphere, wonderful photography, it's just something special--

hope you enjoy it, with the hype I just gave it you may walk away disappointed, but I just love this film -- it was announced on blu-ray earlier this year and seems to have disappeared... hoping it shows up on a release calender again soon!!

It creeped me out.

If it made me laugh at all, it'd be one of those "WTF OMG LOL" reactions, like I gave to "Tokyo Gore Police," "Dead Alive," "The Naked Lunch," "Robo Geisha," "Pinocchio 964," "Videodrome," and a bunch of other super-weird gory films.

I must be the only one who watches them. Maybe I'll suggest one for the movie-of-the-week...

It's one of those moments that will be different every time you see it. For me, i was creeped the f out, but i can totally see it being funny on a "cheesy, because you were trying to be deep, but it comes off as pretentious" sort of way. Really, most of the movie has that double-sided nature.

What's up with the end while we're asking what's up with this movie? I mean the very end.
