I find that with many BD's, it seems like I'm concentrating on the picture quality of the movie rather than the movie itself. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I find it's not as big of a problem the more I watch the movies but I know the first few times as an issue. Anyone else deal with this?

however, if watching a bad DVD, i'll instantly be like, "wow. this looks awful" and complete forget to pay attention to the actual film and not the horrible, horrible visuals. |

The first time I watch a BD of mine I look very carefully for any flaws, as I usually write reviews afterwards, but I also enjoy the movie, except if the flaws are severe (Planet Earth. Anyone?) For me Film, PQ and AQ go hand in hand, and if one of those elements disappoints, I am unhappy with my BD. With Films such as The Bridge of the River Kwai I don't demand amazing Audio, but the PQ should still look good. Overall I'd say, no, watching BDs does not at all distract me from enjoying the actual feature. On the contrary, if everything is right about the presentation, I am completely immersed in the experience, which only BD can provide. ![]() |

It depends on the movie. I'm not that concerned with PQ when it comes to dramas or comedies, but pay particular attention when watching action, digital animation, sci-fi, special effects laden movies and would notice if the PQ didn't live up to par.

I'm new to blu-ray and my setup, so for me... I tend to be in "awe" of the PQ and everything else but that lasts a few minutes, etc until I finally get into the film.
I'm also getting REALLY picky when I switch between BR and DVD, since I'm slowly upgrading to BR ... I watch a lot of DVDs too and the PQ is just not up to par with BR.. so it's getting harder to appreciate the DVD movie on looks alone, lol. I guess "looks" do matter. ![]() |

Not so much now as it did in the beginning.
The first Blu-Ray movie I bought/watched (The Prestige) had me gawking with my eyes bulging and tongue hanging out at how amazing the picture looked. I'd never seen something so clean and pristine on a TV screen before so yes...in the beginning it was awfully distracting. Though I gotta say, even today, I get mesmerized by the quality of Blu-Ray. The last several movies to get this reaction were The Incredible Hulk (amazing PQ and SQ), Speed Racer, and most recently Predators. |

Everything I watch now must be in HD or blu-ray. When I watch tv, it must be in HD and blu-ray when I watch movies. When I go to Blockbuster, I go straight to the blu-ray section and ignore the rest. Sometimes I like to check out the framed posters but that doesn't relate to video. When I see dvds on the shelf, I think of them as outdated or million years old dating back to the laserdisc or beta days.
