I wasnt sure if it was the film or if I was just sleepy. I did put the film on at 10pm so I knew being sleepy played a part in it. I would normally stop the film and watch it later but other people were watching also so I let it play out. Anyhoo I decided to give it another try yesterday just to make sure and this time I didnt watch it so late.

The visuals were insane and it was a pretty dark story taking very seriously. I did enjoy the film but at times it did feel a bit sleepy here and there. I thought it was a well made film and loved the music for the most part. I believe at one point in the film it had the same score as The Mist which was excellent. At times I was thinkin that the film was to serious to be an animated film but then again as an adult that shouldnt be a problem anyway. Great voice overs and each voice seem to fit the appearance. Other then maybe being a bit to serious although there were a couple of humor characters like Digger I have to say overall it is a very good film and would be curious to see a part 2. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 5 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 5 stars (out of 5)
That's pretty much what i thought of it. Hey, what's the deal with the "flecks?" I know it hurts the owls, but it's never explained exactly what it is or how it ends up being in the owls "vomit." Personally, i wished it was even darker and more serious. I didn't like the "attempts" at humor or the cutesy/funny characters like the snake. Give me badass owls hellbent on destruction. Give me more of that.

I just watched Lost In Translation on blu-ray. It was smart, entertaining, moving, funny, sad, and a beautiful film. Such a heartfelt delicate gem. Bill Murray wasn't just acting, he was the character. He deserved the Oscar that year over Sean Penn.
PQ: 4.5 AQ: 4.5
Film: 10/10.

good to hear the PQ and AQ are good. just watched Lost in Translation for the first time ever (on dvd though) the other day and i was gonna pick it up on blu-ray regardless of the PQ and AQ, but knowing it's getting a standard score of at least 4/5 for both is great.

can't wait to buy it and watch it again on blu

Yea they didnt go into great detail about the flecks accept that they affect the owls and that they are pieces of metal debris inside the pellets. I kinda liked some of the humor as I felt it needed that balance especially since it was an animated film. Ms. P (snake) I didnt care for but I loved Digger, especially the part when
[Show spoiler]they first met Digger and he was trying to claim the moth Soren caught. He was pretty funny there and when he dug himself into the ground when he thought they were gonna ambush him lol.
Got Em!!

thebasterd:

I'm glad you finally got to watch Lost In Translation on blu-ray. It's such an amazing movie. Although I don't agree with your score of PQ.... I would rate the PQ a 3.5/5. That doesn't take anything away from the movie though.

iam1bearcat:

The difference in PQ between the dvd and blu-ray version of Lost in Translation isn't huge, so don't expect a world of difference. But it's still better overall, so I definitely recommend it. The movie itself is so fantastic that it's just plain worth it to own on blu.

Might just set a new level of seriousness for an animated film... Check it out, see if it compares (wouldn't be a good family movie though).

Yours Very Truly,

Squidy
i forgot to ask earlier. when you said "close enough" for my Funny People review, did you mean "close enough to my score of it being great"? or "close enough to my score of being crap?"

i have the impression you enjoyed it, but not positive.

The Karate Kid

I don't really feel like writing a review, so:

I really like it.

Only real complaint is the end feels a bit abrupt, I'd have liked at least a minute or two after the fight.

Besides that though, very good movie

Rating - 4.25/5
