I wonder how the get 10 free promotion has shattered HD-DVD's attach rate.

I would say more than the HD DVD supporters are letting on.

When you can walk out of the store with 3 in hand and 2 in the box, that's damaging enough. It gives the owner too much of a taste and honestly, why would he or she be compelled to go out to pick up titles?

I did however notice @ my local BB yesterday two middle aged gentlemen, with brand new PS3s in their carts, over @ the BD racks, picking up titles.

I have to say, it's the first time I've been to my local best buy and had the HDM lane so crowded that I couldn't get through

This being all said, it would be nice if people would restart buying at Amazon instead of directly to Warner.
The way I see it, for Warner, a sale is a sale, and they need their retail distributors. And Amazon has rankings to show their sales (and yes I do know that ranking does not necessarily translate in volumes) where Warner does not, It's just that seeing graphs that used to show Blu Ray winning all over (covered with Blue) now plasterd with black stains is unnerving.

Oh and yes, I do appreciate the effect of the first Bogo ever for HD DVD too,
but if you guys do not mind, please lets get some amazon buying rolling again, and we'll see less HD DVD trolls posting their highdefdigest amazon charts.

hello all this is a wonderful day for me my friend who is a hardcore hd-duder and today i finally bought him over to the blu side he bought a sony blu-ray player and harry potter giftset and terminator 1 and 2 and a bunch of other movies and he is currently selling his hd-dvd player and all movies on ebay. so we have another person go to blu-ray. i proved to him the qauilty of video and audio of hd-dvd cant even come close to blu-ray and now he watched a blu-ray movie and he is totally in love with blu-ray and completely supporting blu-ray. so i feel good about myself today that i helped get someone to buy blu-ray and iam happy i did my part for blu.

GO BLU WARNER COME TO THE BLU SIDE.

I disagree with your logic. A sale is NOT a sale... the margins for WB on a direct sale are MUCH higher than their margins for a sale through a retailer.

That said, the good folks at WB don't have to be rocket scientists to see the sales ratio between BD and HD-DVD REGARDLESS of where the sales take place... they make the darned things after all, they OUGHT to know how many have shipped, and unless they have some sort of sweetheart deal with a large supplier, they look at shipping to a reseller as a sale, because that is when they get paid. The only variation would be if a reseller were to stock up on a title without having the demand, and the wholesale sales numbers would get skewed, but I don't really see any retailers being able to stockpile enough to seriously impact the numbers...

Besides, I think it fair to say that on a representative sample, the direct sales as a ratio of total sales should be consistent from blu to red (meaning a similar percentage of consumers will buy BD direct from WB as will buyHD-DVD)... so if say 10% of consumers buy direct, WB can get a pretty good approximation of how the two formats are selling in direct comparison on identical titles.

You actually did help him out. When Warner goes blu there are going to be many players on ebay dirt cheap. I wouldn't be surprised to see Toshibas A2 and A3 for 49.99 at retail stores once the domino effect starts.

Right.

And to take this a step further: people who only bought and HD DVD player because they could finally afford it at $100 aren't very likely to be able to afford to buy a bunch of HD DVD's at $30 each either.

Very nice sales numbers. I'm a little disappointed that the YTD didn't go up too... Perhaps with all the Amazon BOGO's this will soon change.

And it doesn't hurt to slip 'em a little kool-aid!

Will we even remember or discuss HD-DVD in 2 years? How many will ever admit to having ever owned one in 3?

Default Nielsen numbers are going to be close next week

I think we can pull another win but I do have to admitt next weeks numbers are going to be very interesting to say the least. We have The Harry potter Films, The Borne Ultimatum, Lost and people still picking up the new Pirates Movie. I just hope we don't loose next week. What do you guys think?

Dolphins win one week. That means they are going to be Superbowl champion, right?

Considering they have HP too and the Bourne trilogy that sells well, I'll be happy if we can pull a 60 - 40 for next Friday.

Please don't forget, we have the residuals from Pirates, which should do very well, probably 60,000 or so copies, higher Potter numbers, Lost Season 3, High School Musical 2... and a lot more BD owners. We should take next week, I go with 62:38.
