i'm surprised you haven't seen Jesse James. don't know why, but it just does.
Jacob's Ladder was awesomely twisted and creepy. loved it

If you like movies with lots of dialogue that are clearly adapted from plays, it's worth a blind buy.

Roberts has the smallest role of the four. Portman doesn't wear much in a few of the scenes if that's the clincher

The Karate Kid

Director: Harald Zwart
Writers: Christopher Murphey and Robert Mark Kamen
Mains: Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith and Taraji P. Henson

"Your focus needs more focus."

Plot (IMDb): Work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master. This is the official remake of the Original Karate Kid.

My Take: Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji P. Henson do a good job at this modern remake. The story line is decent and the acting is decent but what stands out the most is the humor and the modern style of the movie. This isn't a perfect film (the original wasn't either) but it serves its purpose. I think Jaden looked great and did a good job (athletically) with his performance. Chan was as good as Chan gets, no complaints at all in the area. I didn't like the cheesy acting at times but every movie cant be perfect.

Conclusion: I cant deny that this is a worthy remake of the original. Its entertaining and most of all modern. While it lacks and many things like acting and overall performance it still serves as a worthy remake. I enjoyed it and disliked it at times but the good out way the bad. If your a fan of original you definitely should give this a shot.

RENT IT FIRST

3.5/5

Note: PQ and AQ were amazing. 5/5 The movie is clear as a crystal ball.

Kick-Ass

Director: Matthew Vaughn
Writers: Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn
Mains: Aaron Johnson, Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz

"I'm KICK-ASS"

Plot (IMDb): Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

My Take: This movie was over the top entertaining but the story was extremely cheesy but still entertaining. When i saw this in the theater i was pretty shocked and was into the movie but now that i've seen it for a second time my score has went down. Its action packed, over the top that is. Its got very good comedy and most of all cheese that dares you to laugh. On the technical side this movie was a very good success. I especially loved the ending gun scene with the strobe light! Nicholas Cage showed that his a bit versatile in this film and Chloe Moretz has made herself a name in this film imo. Her dialogue is truly unforgettable.

Conclusion: If your a action fan YES, if you're a comic fan YES, if you're a comedy fan YES. Im pretty sure any person could find themselves quickly entertained with this over the top blockbuster. Its host everything you need in a action film and the production value is pretty damn good. Kick Ass is just that KICK ASS. Be warned the story might throw you off a bit being that its just silly.

RECOMMENDED

4/5

Note: PQ was about a 4/5 good at times but average for the most part
AQ was a strong 4.5/5 very aggressive.

Love this movie, one of the best Sandler movies I've ever seen, Katie Cassidy, Kate Beckinsale and Jana Kramer are all incredible in it. One of the UMDs I used to own, can't believe I waited this long to upgrade to blu-ray.

Zodiac

  • 2007 | R | 157 Minutes

  • Director: David Fincher

  • Staring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr.

  • Crime | Drama | History

I've been wanting to see this one for a while now but never got around to it...and I am quite glad I finally did tonight.

Bearcat mentioned that the movie was long earlier, and I really had no idea that it was over 2.5 hours long. It definitely felt that long...but in a good way; I wasn't ready for it to end I was enjoying it so much.

I don't know much about the Zodiac killings, I read a bit about them once but that was a few years ago and I don't really remember anything that I read besides that they never positively identified someone as the killer. So I don't know how much of the movie was changed from actual facts and how much was accurate, but it doesn't really matter because what I got worked fantastically. The story kept me interested at every turn, the major characters were all worth paying attention to, and several times the movie actually got me in with its tension (
[Show spoiler]the scene in the basement with the floorboards squeaking overheard particularly
). It takes one heck of a movie to keep you interested for the ENTIRE runtime without a single moment of even the slightest disinterest in a particular portion of the film for over two and a half hours; and for me Zodiac accomplished that.

Jake G was definitely my favorite actor in the film. Right from the beginning I knew I was going to like his character for some reason; I don't know what it was, there was just something. And it proved to be correct; I liked him more and more as the film went on and
[Show spoiler]his obsession with the case grew and grew until he was putting himself in danger because of his need to know the truth and even alienated his wife (who took his kids away for a while) because of his pursuit of answers. All along the way Jake does a great job with the role. When he was in that guys basement he looked like he was actually scared out of his mind, and when he was rummaging through papers, running to police, screaming in the middle of the night about the case
he was always spot on I thought. Great performance.

RDJ comes in as my #2 for the movie. He has a smaller role than Gyllenhaal and Ruffalo but his time on screen was just as well acted.

Ruffalo, who the only time I've seen him before that I can think of is in 13 Going on 30 (yep), also turns in a very good performance. He wasn't as good as Jake G or RDJ I thought but he was no slouch. My favorite scene in the movie was when he and Jake G were
[Show spoiler]breaking everything down in that cafe towards the end
. I also liked anytime they were on screen together; thought they worked pretty well together.

I have to say, this movie surpassed my expectations. And I was expecting to enjoy it. I thought it was well written, well directed and well acted.

I'm not positive, but off hand I can't think of another movie released in 2007 that I enjoyed more. I'm going to have to look into everything else that I saw from that year before I can say for sure, but without doing that I can say this one is one of the contenders for my favorite of 2007. The only other movie I can think of that got the same score from that year that I'm giving to Zodiac is Gone Baby Gone from yesterday.

Rating - 4.75/5

Resident Evil: Apocalypse - 2004

Mehhh. Honestly, I just wasn't into this film much. The audio was damn good... very close to Terminator: Salvation-like quality. So that's one thing it had going for it. But once again, just like the first RE, weak script, weak acting, subpar special effects. It just seems like the franchise as a whole doesn't put a lot of money into it's movies. Lots of cheesiness abound.

One thing it always has going for it though, is Milla Jovovich. She's smoking hot.

5.5/10

I gave an extra half point just because of Milla's hotness. Yeah, she's sexy hot, just in case I wasn't clear.

Salt - I watched the extended version of the film as if I get the choice to choose I usually always pick the longest version. This was a cool take on a spy film. I have seen better spy movies but this was still a very fun film with some great stunts and action scenes. Jolie was good as she pretty much always is. I liked some of the plot twist that took place and the film never got stale as some action film do as they usually focus on stunts and not enough story. This had a good balance of both.

The PQ and AQ was quite good but not reference material. I could also see a possible sequel for a film like this although they didnt leave a cliff hanger. This is a fun roller coaster ride but also gives u a little more than just mindless action. A definite recommendation, especially to fans of Jolie and spy/action films. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

I'll check it out then. Btw, my God, Mad Men is really good. I like the characters a lot, Jon Hamm's above all. It's very well made. Each episode makes me crave it more and more and it oozes with flavor and authenticity... like smoking a rich cigar that never ends.
