I have the 80GB "Fat" PS3. I have the most current update for the system (3.55). I had recently tried playing Sunshine with the same problems that afflict many other users (The PIP option locked on). However, in the last three weeks I have noticed that movies from 20th Century Fox are not able to play correctly.
Many of the James Bond films, as well as Last of the Mohicans will start with the screen that says "This system does not have the current firmware needed to play said Blu-Ray title." The Bond films will give me the option to continue to the main menu, but when I try playing the movie, it will skip as if the disc itself is damaged. Last of the Mohicans simply says my system does not have the firmware necessary and will not play at all. This afternoon I tried playing these movies on a friend's 120 GB "Slim" model, also with the 3.55 latest update, and all the movies play just fine (outside of the Sunshine problem.) I have tried playing these movies with the internet disabled in case this is some BDLive issue or something on those lines. Any other suggestions or help? If it was the system why is it specific to the movies from 20th Century Fox? |
