Yes but Revenge of the Sith was the sixth and final film, A New Hope is the movie that introduced us to possibly the greatest saga of all-time. This very argument is why people have to think before they introduce kids to SW for the first time. I think IV-VI and I-III is the way to go.

I know I've reviewed A New Hope for the thread before but I do not believe I've reviewed Revenge of the Sith.

That's the order they came out in, yea, but its not the beginning and end of the saga

Actually, I LOVED the movie when I saw it in the theater. I didnt understand it, didnt try, and didnt care. It was the imagery and messages that touched me. Second viewing was the same. It was by complete accident that I stumbled across an explanation. Someone here, moths ago, linked an email sent to Ebert by one of his readers. I read it and it made complete sense. AND....nothing is hidden in the movie. Its right out in broad daylight and touched on more than once...I just plain missed it. I didnt need the info to LOVE the film, but its kinda cool to understand how the 3 time periods are linked.

Plot (IMDb): Lester Burnham, a depressed suburban father in a mid-life crisis, decides to turn his hectic life around after developing an infatuation for his daughter's attractive friend.

My Take: First off I'll like to mention that this film has won 5 oscars but i dont know why so many???? Is the film good? Yes. Its the film oscar worthy? HELL NO. How does a film like this win 5 oscars???? I know its just my opinion and i do have to take in consideration when the film came out so with all that taken maybe the film is oscar worthy.

On with the film. American Beauty was a nice little treat. Its a movie that is as realistic as it is portrayed, i can relate to every character. Many get bend up about the ending where my all of my foucus was on the mid age married man that has lost all of his "mojo" because of work and failure in his relationship. Seeing Kevin Spacey's character rise made me feel simply great. There was nothing more i wanted but to see him happy. The was pretty good and everyone that i know enjoys it i just dont think its 5 oscar great. Come on share the love lol.

Conclusion: American Beauty is one of the drama's that anyone could get into. Its told in a very basic manner and gets right to the point. I dont think its as deep as dramas like Magnolia but its still a treat. You'll find this movie to be very rewarding and overall refreshing...... or not.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

4.5/5
A fine film to be sure, and another one of my personal favourites; of course for me it is a solid 5/5, but at least you seemed to like it a lot.

Begs the question: Is that a string or a tentacle?

[Show spoiler]The conquistador section is the book that Izzy was writing and the part after Tomas is stabbed was written by Tommy, finishing her book for her. The present day timeline is just that--present day. The "future" timeline is in his head. In other words, it corresponds to his feelings and emotions. It is in no way meant to be real or meant to convey that Tommy found a way to stop aging/dying and live forever. That would be completely contrary to the blatant themes of the film (i.e. coming to acceptance with death and realizing that instead of finding ways to prevent dying, we should instead focus on the moments we have). That's the cliff notes version. The MUCH longer version with full factual support is in the old Fountain thread.
