One thing nobody's mentioned; will we the UK blu-ray buyers be getting the uncut version of Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones? If not a few guys will be going for the US set.

Like a few guys mentioned I also watched The Phantom Menace yesterday (not on ITVHD alas) and can imagine it will look a lot grainier than Episodes II and III. I wonder if there will be an attempt at uniformity for the prequels?

We'll be up in arms at that as well "they've ruined TPM with DNR!"
I was thinking the same thing, but never thought to post a reply on here.

That 1 second head-butt that was cut has always bothered me ever since I found out it was cut. I even watched the sequence on YouTube to see what the uncut version is likely and it runs much more fluidly now I know where it should be, comapred to the UK version.

I think it's hard to say whether it'll be cut or uncut, because if it uncut then it'd automatically put a 12 certificate on it, which is obviously the same as ROTS, and since they're in the same set they might as well edit it back in.
Although in the past when I've not come across many box sets that has an edited version of a film that would raise the age limit to the same as one of the other films in the set, so it could mean it'll still be cut.
We'll just have to see, but I have my doubts because Star Wars is primarily aimed at families and even though one film is rated with an age limit, I don't think the BBFC would want to raise another just so it was uncut.

Your raise good points as usually TL, I imagine the BBFC will have a lot of Star Wars extras to go through over the coming months so Lucasfilm might re-submit AOTC. Head butts have always a bone of contention in films although I've only experienced them by accident in real life but it does annoy me when The Matrix is cut for people buying the film (and rated 15) but shown uncut and free after the watershed on Channel Five.

It will be a similar case with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom we've been lumbered with the cut version for years now.

AOTC does run a lot more smoothly with the headbutt though as you said and unless you looked at the internet etc you were left guessing why Obi-Wan went backwards.

You're right, they probably will re-submit AOTC, so there is hope.

But I've never understood the BBFC's problem with head-butts, obviously they're not good things, but they're not worse than a punch to the head or something similar. I remember when I was watching Doctor Who last year in in an episode called The Lodger, I don't know if you've seen it, and the Doctor actually head-butts someone and I was really worried that they'd cut it for the Blu-ray/DVD, but wasn't sure if they how they would because it's such a major plot point in the epsiode that it'd be almost impossible to cut it. But then the Blu-ray and DVD comes out and it's rated PG. Yet in the past they've alawys rated head-butts at 12 or 15. So there maybe a stronger chance now that it'll be back in in AOTC, who knows.

And also with the Temple of Doom, if a complete Indy set comes out then maybe it'll be uncut since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was rated 12, so let's just hope the BBFC see sense this time.

I'm sure AOTC was re-released a few years ago on dvd in the UK with the headbutt re-instated.

I quess i was thinking of Spider-man 2.

No, all re-releases of the film have been exact copies of the same release from 2002, so you must be think of Spiderman 2.

Since episode 1 was shot on film like the originals, then I presume it'll still retain film grain (how much will remain a mystery until we see it), whereas episodes 2 and 3 will be seperate and remain identical, and probably look like Avatar.

Well I wouldn't say they'll look like Avatar, but AOTC was the first ever film to be used using an HD camera, if I remember correctly, so it'll still look great and probably won't have as much if any ivisible grain on it.

Back in the day I bought the Aussie dvd of AOTC on CDWOW, they made a point of stating it was uncut. That would be an option again. A lot of movies that have been cut on dvd, Lethal Weapon, Tomb Raider have been released uncut on bluray so fingers crossed its the same here.

AOTC was the third film to be filmed digitally but the first film anyone has had heard of been shot digitally.... So we'll give you that....

The first was Jackpot (2001).

Thanks TL, wasn't 100% certain, just had a feeling it was re-instated for later pressings for some reason.

If it's no buckethead nut on blu in the UK then it's the US versions for me then, had the US ATOC on dvd.

For episode 2 I think for blu-ray it would be resubmittied and uncut.

Sky movies HD had aired EP2 uncut in the past so I do wonder if the uncut HD master would be used in the UK.

Fox usually use the same encode or sometimes two encodes world wide.

As for episode one I do hope they don't degrain it.

I watched most of TPM on ITV HD. On the whole it looked good, but the grain was noticeable in many scenes and if they cleaned it up I wouldn't mind at all.

Yoda looked pretty awful but he's due for a CG replacement in the new release I believe.

To be honest I think the prequel films will suffer more on HD than the originals because there is so much blue screen. Hopefully they've done a top notch clean up job, but when I last saw the PT in HD the actors didn't blend properly into their surroundings, they looked like they were stuck on top.

And for me, I just can't get as excited about the space battles in the PT when I know it's all CG modelling. You can't beat the battle over Endor for a space battle; real models, meticulously filmed and composited together to create the best space shoot up ever committed to film.

I hope they don't degrain TPM and what we get is faithfull transfer overwise we're going to loose a lot of detail. I'm not lookinf forward to a new CGI Yoda but I'm sure Lucasfilm will do a good job.

Hopefully they CGI Ewan's awful wig as well, because everytime I watch TPM I think he must have had to re-shoot half is scenes and that wig (although I imagine it looked good in real life) just sticks out.

I was watching ANH the other day and Lucas mentioned all or nearly all the scenes with R2 and 3PO had to ADR'ed. Which means most of Hamil's lines were ADR which is pretty impressive voice work IMO. Usually you can spot ADR (in 24's Jack Bauer lines are dubbed often) especially when it's expository dialogue.

I'm just wondering if THAT infamous cave scene will be cut into ROTJ or if it will just be a mere extra added as a deleted scene.

Why are you calling it infamous, it's not hate or anything.

But, as was shown at Celebration V last, it will only be an extra and not cut into the film. I can't imagine any of the deleted scenes from the OT will be edited in because GL would have done that in either the Special Editions are 2004 DVD edtions, but of course he only added one deleted scene.

Eh, since when does hatred come into infamous? (scratches head).

I wasn't really asking the question I was merely specultaing. There has been mention of it being put back into the film, but nothing official.
There was also a rumour of the sandstorm sequence being in there too, but as it was never completed and all that exists of it now are stills... well, that shot that rumour.

It's possible something big will happen with 'Luke in the cave building his light saber' scene as Lucasfilm have asked it to be removed from YouTube etc. considering the amount of Star Wars footage on there and GL's 'openmindedness' to fanfilms etc. It's odd that it it still isn't freely available unless something special was in store for it.

I'm hoping for Koo Stark's scenes to be restored as they were in the original comic version with the Biggs scenes as well.

If you can get hold of the 'Deleted Magic' dvd the Biggs scenes are on that if you've not seen them. I've got Deleted Magic and ReturnING to Jedi on dvd. If you shoot me a PM I'll gladly help you out.

Preordered The Complete Saga on amazon and hmv to keep the options open

My first experience of The Original Trilogy was on DVD so I'm not bothered about original versions; can't miss what you haven't seen.

Hopefully the packaging stays as it is, only removing the bluray logo and having a blu banner that comes off once you remove the plastic film, keeping it simple and iconic.

Having said that, exclusive Death Star/Millenium Falcon packaging would be extremely hard to ignore
