It was surprisingly good. I can't decide if I think you'd like it or not. The resolution comes pretty quickly and the accents are sometimes thick, but I personally think it's a very solid film.

Yeah! Very odd and surprisingly effective how it can go from almost juvenile humor (dwarf scene/obese guy scene) to very emotional (park bench).

Red Dragon - 4.5/5
PQ and AQ 4/5
Definitely a huge step up from Manhunter, casting alone makes it a lot better. I consider it to be better than the much more acclaimed Silence of the Lambs. Norton is simply a better lead actor than Foster and Hopkins is excellent in his caged animal role. Recommended to all who have enjoyed the Thomas Harris novels and haven't seen this yet. Food rating -

Next greatest blind-buy: “Dances with Wolves.”

Well, it’s 1/6th of a blind-buy. I caught the last half-hour earlier last year and thought it was alright. Apparently, those scenes must have stuck around in my head, and I was compelled to blow $20 on this shiny new BD.

The movie is long (whether looking at the 3-hour theatrical cut or the whopping 4-hour extended cut), but it is hardly dull at all. With its exquisite combination of gorgeous scenery, tense drama, occasional bursts of violence, and the focus on quality storytelling, this movie is surprisingly gripping and evenly paced for the entire time.

For the most part, it’s the story that takes precedence. Fairly simple and straightforward perhaps, but it is a heartfelt story with strong relatable characters and strong thematic focus. At its heart, it’s an incredible and believable transformation from one civilization to another, covering the clashes and conflicts that occur. There are also strong themes concerning the historical invasion of the American land (which is a rather tragic undertone throughout this movie) and the harmony of the natural world.

As a film, the photography is often beautiful. There aren’t a whole lot of unique or unusual camera angles or anything, but the scenery keeps it fresh and interesting. Acting is generally good and the writing is not bad. Production value is very strong and real-looking; the combination of settings, props, and costumes helps immerse the audience into the movie’s world. Music is pretty decent too.

Altogether, it's a gorgeous film with some very strong drama and a heartbreaking viewpoint on American history.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 5/5, film: 4/5, intellectual/emotional impact: 4/5)

Recommendation: Yes.

On Blu-Ray, this movie looks quite sharp. Detail is phenomenal and the image is mostly clean. Some darker nighttime scenes and indoor scenes may look noisy and dim, but these are few and far between. A couple of scenes looked a little soft and close inspection may reveal a few specks or artifacts. Otherwise, colors are mostly strong and contrast is excellent. Sound quality is good, although I initially thought that some of the dialogue was a little low.

PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4/5

This changes everything. “Avatar” sucks. It gets a 0/5!

And while I’m at it, “Star Wars” gets a 0/5 too, for ripping off the eternal masterpiece “The Hidden Fortress!”

More rating changes to come!

Wow now i wanna re-watch Dances With Wolves and watch The Hidden Fortress.

BTW im just about through with STAR WARS and to be quite HONEST,

LORD OF THE RINGS IS WAYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTTTTTERRRRRRRRRR and i enjoy the PREQUELS more than the ORIGINALS.

It seems that im more interested and the beginning of Darth Vader than Luke's G*y A** rise.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy "Avatar" and "Star Wars"...their scores are just heavier on entertainment rather than story or art.

But yeah, I remember "The Hidden Fortress" being good.

"LOTR" is still #1 on my list!

THE SOCIAL NETWORK 5/5

well this is an addicting little badger!

watched TSN for the first time on tuesday when the blu-ray dropped, and after a few hectic days of work, i could have popped in ANY other blu-ray i own, but The Social Network creeped into my head and it refused to leave. so alas, i watched it again

just as enjoyable as the first viewing

we'll see what i say after i see Black Swan, but for now, i would really enjoy seeing The Social Network win Best Picture this year. it is far and away the best time i've had watching a film (released in 2010) and the best made film i've seen (released in 2010).

it seems, at least for me, that Fincher now has done 4 terrific films, and 4 less than stellar films.

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but Panic room should be at the bottom of both lists.

But agree that it(social network) might be an addiction for some.Seen it twice, and will get it on blue when either I get the addiction or it goes at around 16$ here in europe. It will be released for around 24$ over here

You will not have a "good time" watching black swan.
I'm just as interested to hear what the "other couple" has to say. They might disown you after this. one more razzie.

to be honest i haven't seen it for quite some time, but i know i like it more than Boring Buttons, Alien3, and The Game (worst ending ever to a film ) so that's why it's as "high up" on the list as it is.

i will be too. both parties of the other couple are close friends of mine and the girl is really into films such as Black Swan (psychological thriller / deep thinker and whatnot type films, like myself) while her boyfriend (my best bud) is... well... not really into films. i guarantee he will hate it. when me and his gf and my gf were discussing seeing it he was just like, "yeah, sure, let's go..." and didn't seem into it. he, of course, thinks it's about dancing.

and he hates anything you have to think about for more than 5 minutes lol.

his top ten favorites list would like something like this:

Dumb and Dumber, Jurassic Park, Just Friends, Armageddon, Anchorman, The Replacements.... and has zero interest in seeing a "deep" film. only reason he's going is because his gf was gonna drag him along anyway. can't wait to see how he reacts!
