Yup. T'was Declan Mulholland who was the actor that played Jabba in '77. Mark Austin played Boba in the ANH : SE's.

Just for the record one of the original puppeteers insdide the ROTJ Jabba only lives down the road from me.

A fan has written a 108 page rebuttle of RedLetterMedia's review of The Phantom Menace. The link is below (from a post on slash/film).

The Phantom Menace Review Review!

Edit: I just started on the review and he writes:

Quote:
4. Disregard all information from the Star Wars "Expanded Universe" books. Most people don't read them. The movie series should be expected to stand on its own.
Most people don't read them = bestsellers list. If most people don't read them how come they make the lists time and again? I'll give the guy the benefit of doubt on that one.

His main arguments seem to be that the RedLetterMedia reviewer nitpick the plot, but his entire review nitpicks the original review...
End of the day both reviews are irrelevant, watch the movies make up your own minds

I think we've entered The Twilight Zone when you nitpick the plot of a review nitpicking the plot of a film. One bad thing about the BD release is all this rears it head and the films get scrutinised again. Instead of been enjoyed as escapist science-fiction fantasy.

Update: I've skipped through the review and it points out that there are anti-droid bigots in ANH "We don't serve their kind here!" I've always thought this was a reaction to the years of conflict (e.i. The Clone Wars) and the countless dead by their robotic hands not any kind of small minded biggitory. I'd be weary of machines that tried to take over the galaxy as well....

Reading this thread shows me just how little I knew about what's been changed since the Theatrical releases. I knew there was always a lot of fuss made over the changes, but the only one I'd really heard before was 'who shoots first'. I've got the two DVD sets, but the original trilogy has absolutely no extras at all.

Check this out, but it may give you a headache.

Changes to Star Wars.

Is there anybody on this Earth who will buy JUST the prequel box set?

I read on another forum that someone only wants the prequel set, so clearly there's at least one person.

I don't understand it either, because if you want the prequels you'd surely want the original trilogy too, so would buy the Complete Saga.

There might be a few people with kids out there who prefer the prequels perhaps... or people who don't care about extras and want the two separate boxsets on their shelf for whatever reason...

I can just imagine a mountain of the prequel box-sets stacking up and gathering dust while all the others zoom off the shelves...

I personally can not wait to hear -

" I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth."

I often feel the same way about sand, but I rarely convey those feelings and never to an ex Queen/Senator of the Republic I'm trying to woo....

I'm sure Anakin used the Jedi Mindtrick on Padme so she would marry the idiot. In fact it would have been a tidy subplot. In fact Russell Brand may also be a Jedi.... Or he's listened to one of Katy's albums and thought "what have I got to loose?"

Not to mention:

Anakin: "You are so... beautiful."
Padmé: "It's only because I'm so in love."
Anakin: "No, it's because I'm so in love with you."
Padmé: "So love has blinded you?"
Anakin: "Well, that's not exactly what I meant."
Padmé: "But it's probably true."

Man, after that Anakin thought he could strangle Padme. Oh... wait, he did. Some people love that scene, I couldn't personally comment.

I might only pick up the prequels (if at all) if the only options available are the non-theatrical versions of IV-VI, which is likely at this point.

Bear in mind you ONLY get the extra 3 discs of bonus material if you buy the complete collection.

Check out the descriptions for the prequel/sequel sets; only 3 discs for each, but 9 for the complete collection.

I will never understand anyone who refuses to buy the OT because they aren't the original theatrical releases. 99% of the improvements are about sound & picture quality and enhancements to the overall look and feel.

But I guess some people would prefer to watch Vader waving around a skinny white piece of plastic after he kills Obi Wan, rather than a glowing red lightsaber. Hmmmm. And yeah, I'd rather Han shot first, but I can easily ignore that one second of the film and enjoy the rest of it.

Life is too short to get wound up about these things, it really is! Some of you guys are going to be shaking a fist at George Lucas on your death beds Get over it.

I'd honestly prefer to have the SE's with some kind of original theatrical release whether the '77 or 70mm '81. Like Blade Runner these have a progression to them and the theatrical versions should be honoured in some way.

I have the 6 disc set with the non-anamaphoric versions and they're just Laser Disk ports. I've always felt Lucas was giving us the proverbial middle finger when he shunted them on an extras disc.

Some people think there have only been two or three versions of the OT and I'd like the chance to see the older versions re-mastered. I'm sure the effects will be altered for the 3D versions and we'll be tempted to double-dip when they become available.

George Lucas has brought a lot of joy into my life and I won't criticise him needlessly I love the prequels as well but from a certain point of view they have their problems. But I love Star Wars and I always will.

I watched AotC over the weekend and am forming the view that it's the worst of the prequels, some of the dialogue and delivery is awful. The cast is, on the whole, a great bunch of actors. Even with iffy dialogue a good actor should be able to deliver their lines convincingly. But some of the performances are shockingly wooden. Even Anthony Daniels seems to have forgotten what threepio sounds like; is he reading his lines sitting on a washing maching or something? Oh My.

Ian McDiarmid steals every scene he's in, he's probably the best actor in the prequels.

They say Sean Connery appeared in some bad films, but never gave a bad performance. Sadly AotC is proof that that's not the case for all actors!

I still have the 4:3 and 16:9 VHS releases of the OT, I guess I could transfer them to DVD fairly easily. I think I'd be shocked at how poor the image is though!

R2's always been the best actor in Star Wars anyway. Voice acting is difficult I like The Simpsons and Family Guy but the early seasons Homer doesn't sound the same and all the Family Guy voices seem slightly off compared to later years..

True, I have the DVDs (the 3 individual releases, inc V here) that have disc 1 the "Special Editions" and disc 2 has Theatrical versions.

What they don't tell you is that its from an old unrestored master, poor by DVD standards that isn't even anamorphic, ie 2.35:1 but 4:3.
