Admittedly, he seems much better at getting news that is favorable to HD-DVD than for bluray. I dont know if thats so much that the HD-DVD camp has targetted him and bluray supporters shy away from him, which unfortunately means that most of the information he gets had an HD-DVD bias to it. Based on conversations that I have had with him, I can tell you that he IS becoming more and more blu. Many people criticize his talking about bluray replication issues, but my belief is this: I wont believe we have a problem UNTIL WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Im not worried about replication issues for the simple reason that NO major titles have been delayed thus far due to replication issues. We have all been able to walk into major retailers and see PotC, Spidermans, and Harry Potters or any other BD-50 film in plenty of supply. I also believe that if BD-50 was in mega short supply that films such as Halloween and Evil Dead would not have been put on BD50s. But anyways, thats that for DV. He is not perfect, but there are FAR worse people to be worried about. rdjams recent FUD rage has got to go down as one of the lowest points of this format war. I wonder why we haven't heard anything from WB about HP, not even DVD numbers.

I think those who have read my posts over the last year and a half or so know that I don't have a problem going after people who are deceiving others and try to keep unsuspecting people deceived. But I just don't see it with Dave. If I see him do that in the future then I'll have a problem with it, but I really think a lot of this hatred of Dave here is pretty irrational. I don't know the guy personally, but I haven't seen any signs that he has done anything other than try to provide accurate information. --Darin Last edited by darinp2; 12-19-2007 at 06:55 AM. |

Did you see the posts here where he was arguing head to head with the insiders & caused Pman to take a vacation? I dont like him for the fact that he tries to make it seem like his status is greater than what it is. If he's a journalist, then he shouldn't act like his word on yield rates or whatever he's talking about is the end-all answer. It would be like if I was a journalist, and my buddy the CEO at honda talks about the manufacturing "yield rates" at chevrolet. Would my facts be more correct than the engineer at chevy (assuming we get factual information from the chevy guy)? In some ways, I'd rather trust Amir or one of the MS execs. At least then the information is coming from the horse's mouth rather than its ass. |

![]() We don't know who was feeding Dave his numbers, and considering how often they've been revised over the past 6 months, I just don't see any reason to care about anything else Dave has since said or done. If he would just come out and say he's not an insider and it was wrong for AVS to declare himself one, and it was wrong to take the bad yield numbers and parade around like he's the kingpin... then perhaps I'll respect him. Until that happens, I just don't find him the least bit relevant. Last edited by dakota81; 12-19-2007 at 08:11 AM. |

I did not think it was going to sell more on HDDVD (I am hoping at least 62:38 for HP or my prediction for the week will be way wrong), but WB had a press release for 300 on a Monday, so no press release makes it look like it may have not sold that well.

My BB had ay least 5 times more copies of HP OOTP than HD-DVD...and from what I could tell it wasn't from lack of sales...just more stock. The red side is dwindling even more there...like I said earlier they didn't even receive Blade Runner on HD-DVD.

That's really the problem with the format war, we all have our biases to different degrees. The format war amplifies that, demonizes people with opposite biases. It polarizes opinions.
I hear it dupes willing pawns to fight out the stupid propaganda war that the both true participants should be doing, here the spectators are expected to join in and sling mud. The people who are paid for a living to push this stuff should be doing this instead. |

But I think DV was arguing what he thought to be true... Let's put it this way shall we? Amir was a so called insider, and many took what he said as gospel... Look how that turned out... ![]() Just because someone is an "insider" doesn't mean they don't have an agenda. It also doesn't mean they will always be truthful with the information that they have --- see "Amir" DV is just an enthusiast, he isn't Satan, Baal, etc. ![]() Now Rdjam is another discussion. ![]() If you want to focus your format aggression, I think Rdjam or another of other disinformation agents are a better target than DV. :P |

Its early, and I'm getting ready for work, but just looking at these forums again and seeing the same ol things. uggg. We're at the end of Q4, and last quarter everyone saw Q4 as being the decisive moment. We'll its about to pass and honestly, nothings really budged. Insiders on both sides are telling us any moment things will change. Q5. etc. The momentum is with HDDVD, no the momentum is with Blu. Same stories from the reds, and strangely not alot at all from our end besides "soon. just watch". And most of the people listed as insiders are completely silent. I'll stick my neck out now and say our insider thread (even the 2nd incarnation) has become something more like a variation of General Discussion. Less info is better than wrong info though (eg: rdjam's wild diatribes) but, Was stringer right in his comments? Are we truly in a stalemate and blindly hanging our hopes that Warner will one day come to our rescue? While I'd be very disappointed if Blu-Ray doesn't win. It wouldn't be the end of the world. We'd still get great movies on a format that is better than SD. I'm just so ready for this to be done with. The really mean things I see on these forums (ours included) are sad. People lashing out and being just plain angry. Unless you are in the industry: Its just a freak'n format, and we're all just consumers. Neither format is gonna kill ya, and being a supporter of one should never make you the personal enemy of supporters of the other. |

I've had my ps3 for a year now, but I've only purchased about 5 blu movies, partially because I ONLY buy titles that I really like. I don't get caught up in "whats a good deal, or we have to support blu" I also don't buy much, because THERE IS STILL A WAR. Having a ps3 and ME thinking this way, imagine how people on the fence in general feel? The numbers will come out this week AGAIN (PROBABLYin favor of BLU< AGAIN), HDDUD will spin it, we will counter-act their spin and that will go on for another 5 days until we look to next week, AGAIN. Really, the studio's have decided that they will control this war, NOT CONSUMERS, or this war would have been over for some time now. SO, we wait until CES, maybe warner goes one way or the other, but until then, what does all this bickering do? |

The unanswered question is just exactly why DV was making such a big deal about the whole yield question. He took it much too far for it not to be an agenda. Only a partisan would have made so much of that issue.

As I said before, he's been remarkably hard on the Red Ants lately, especially in regards to sales numbers. This week will be tighter than usual, but, as Darin has said before and I agree, this week is stacked in HD DVDs favor. The deck has been stacked and if BD still wins, I have no doubt we have a clean sweep for the year, and beyond. After Jan, I think HD DVD doesn't have a card left to play. |
