What we can say will be published on the site

The last 2 films will not improve appreciably, both are DIs

Which is understandable...plus, those two films garnered strong video reviews from most professional reviewers anyway. I think most are hoping for an improvement of sorts in regards to "Fellowship."

Sounds like they are foregoing new material for the sake of getting them out now - followed by an uber-double-dip of all 5 films when Hobbit is done.

I am far more interested in this and special features than I am in "improving the quality" of the transfers. I doubt we'll see any improvement with Fellowship, and the last two will stay the same because nobody had real issues with the last two.

If Fellowship looks a lot better though (or if they've made the other two look better still), there's no question I'll be there day one. What an expensive year this will turn out to be: The Incredibles, The Lion King, Bambi, Star Wars, Scarface, Jurassic Park, and the LOTR EE. My wallet's already hurting.

That qualifies as an expensive YEAR?!! That would qualify as expensive month, but an expensive year???!!!

I think you need a better job! :P

I still have my dvds and if the sets for the LotR EE blurays suck then I might just do a good ole fashioned swipe out. Same for when Pearl Harbor Vista Series finally comes to bluray (dont laugh!)

The only film of the three I'd really like to see with improved PQ is Fellowship... so I'll fantasize that your above reply might be a vague indication that some sort of digital re-scan/assembly of the first film might be considered by the studio... I can dream.

I'd love a remaster as well of Fellowship but will only get it if it's the theatrical cut and not the extended one. Hey Jeff, doubt it will happen but any word on getting a proper releaser of Dumb & Dumber?

Well, that wouldn't be the case, since the EE stuff was done DI anyway, as were parts of the theatrical fellowship.

No I haven't heard anything about a new D&D

I'm a university student; my money is a bit short for the next few (probably several) years.

...I think a lot of studios are still pretty uncertain on how to make catalog TV work. This is the first time they've really had to deal with the concept of asking people to rebuy such an expensive thing they already have, and it's a bit of a hot potato due to a bunch of shows not doing well at all. Fox and WB have definitely been the aggressive parties, and it's become pretty clear that genre and quirky programming (Pushing Daisies, Chuck, 24, Lost) is where its at, while shows like Burn Notice, How I Met Your Mother, Nip/Tuck or Damages just haven't clicked...
Since we're waxing philosophical:

As you pointed out some months ago, some older series have the audience to pay for restoration and extras. Star Trek: The Original Series and The Twilight Zone are two prime examples. They've been sterling sets and I hope their sales met expectations.

A couple other old series that might be worthy of similar treatment are:

The Three Stooges - Sony just finished a great DVD remastering to popular acclaim based on the Amazon comments. If the sales were there, a Blu-ray re-issue could be around the corner, assuming they were forward looking by doing the scans for DVD in HD.

Perry Mason - The series has slowly dribbled out on DVD, a half-season at a time at a fairly high price according to some. If sales projections have been met at the high price, a heretical idea would be to stop the DVD issues and just issue them in Blu-ray from now on.

Happy New Year,
-Jim

Three Stooges will come out on Blu-ray eventually, probably not so far down the line in some form.

Perry Mason, I have serious doubts. Hell, I even have doubts that something like MASH, that I've seen projected prints of and would look dandy in HD will get an upgrade, and that has younger fans than Perry Mason. The key is that those are classic Sci-Fi, and Perry Mason isn't

Jeff,

What the hell has happened to the Alien prequel? All of these reports are confusing.

It's morphed into the Prometheus film project.

It was no longer an Alien movie, so they decided not to call it that

Were so many other directors so wise

While on the subject of Ridley...what is the word around Hollywood as far as a sequel to Robin Hood? It made decent coin worldwide, and I think it just wasn't the movie people expected to see. With the way they set it up, the seuqel might actually be less of a Robin Hood prequel, and more of the Robin Hood people expect to see.

Unlikely at best, and not by Ridley Scott for sure.
