I knew David Fincher directed music videos for A Perfect Circle (Judith) and Nine Inch Nails (Only), but did not know he directed a ton for Paula Abdul!!!

Sorry, what were we talking about again?

One of his best was BAD GIRL for Madonna, it also starred Christoper Walken. I believe Madonna and Fincher had a falling out during that shoot. He did a lot of her great vids.

but enough of the SOCIAL NETWORK talk they have their own thread for that haha

Otherwise, I'd suggest you go over to criterionforum.org and sign-up so you can jump into their 'Buying/Trading' thread, which has lots of Criterions floating around as well as MOC titles, Second Run, Mr. Bongo, etc.

Thank you much! (And I should have added that my interest was indeed only blu! Once you go blu, you never go something something.) Thanks again!

Didn't you say for Criterion lovers? What you said sounds more like a blu-ray lover to me. Many of the great movies released by Criterion are on DVD and will probably take a long time to make it to blu-ray or possibly not even make it to blu-ray.

I read that as "Criterion Blu ray" lover.

Yes, I have quickly become quite a blu-ray snob, no thanks to this sight . Criterion on dvd is definitely nothing to turn my nose up at, but if it is indeed released on blu, I'd prefer that.

I did just watch Wild Strawberries on dvd and it looked rather amazing sans blu

I'm not looking to sell myself, but may be interested in buying (as perhaps many Criterion Collection Discussion readers may be as well). Just a thought.
Nope. But hey, I guess like CC said, this is a blu-ray site after all so there's no problem in assuming the poster is only interested in blu-ray.

I'd say their newly released DVD's are probably close enough in quality to blu-ray that I don't really mind it. The trick for me is just sitting farther back when watching a DVD.

I did, at one point, own The Rock on Criterion DVD, and it looked quite spectacular.

But yes, their older ones, most of them anyway, were not as good picture-wise. In addition, the widescreen ones weren't even anamorphic until later on.

Spine #47, Insomnia, was Criterion's first anamorphic DVD release, though not all releases after that were anamorphic like Spine #83, The Harder They Come.

Yeah, watching those non-anamorphic releases can be a problem if you're a nut for aspect ratios. Luckily, I've learned to focus on just the picture that watching those movies with black bars all around don't really bother me.

Being that today is a Holiday, we haven't rec'd any further information regarding Chungking Express and what the issue is currently.

As much as I would like to think it is a simple digipack (Earlier style) to plastic case it seems like a lot of trouble for that reasoning.

Even Bottle Rocket I've seen in stores in the updated plastic case, yet there weren't issues with stock on amazon or Barnes & Noble, Borders etc on the release the BLU was just shipped out in the new case as stock was replenished.

I tend to not put much stock in the Oscars. Danny Boyle won a directorial Oscar---Stanley Kubrick did not win one, nor did Welles or Hitchcock (I'll take a second tier film from them over Slumdog)

The last time I was happy with the Oscars was Marion Cotillard winning for La Mome because she was incredible in that film.

My DVD player has one of those zoom modes. I forget what it is called, but it can take the image and blow it up to the correct aspect ratio...usually cutting some info off the left and right sides, but not much.

It helped with a bunch of non-anamorphs that I owned or rented. Yes, the pic wasn't nearly as clear is it would have been if it were anamorphic, but I'd rather watch it that way than in a small box in the center of my screen.

The modes were something like: normal mode, zoom mode, vertical mode, and something else I think.

Vertical mode was cool because the player automatically stretched 4:3 images. Vertical mode would pillar box it correctly for me.
