So with Lightning wearing knight armor I'm guessing time travel? I liked XIII so I'm not against a sequel, but the trailer has me confused about what's going on; we go from a futuristic setting to a medieval setting? I think I'll just remain cautiously optimistic for this game.

Actually,
[Show spoiler]after Orphan was defeated, Cocoon was powerless (it did fall out of the sky) so I would assume that the technologically advanced society came to an end (as it did centuries ago on Gran Pulse). It's not a stretch to imagine a more medieval setting now.

The more I think about this, the more I wish SE would just finish a damn game before announcing/releasing another. I really think Versus XIII is getting the back burner treatment for this game and when it comes out I will be severely disappointed.

Any word yet on whether this will continue the doom and gloom theme from FF13 or if it will be a lighthearted spinoff, similar to how X-2 was on PS2...

Remember when Square's release lineup wasn't dominated by Final Fantasy spinoffs and Kingdom Hearts?

But they're trying!

Had a good laugh at the Mind Jack release announcement email I got yesterday. Who knew it was coming? Who cares.

And Gun Loco, clearly some prime grade-A quality development there. It's hard to believe S-E employs such terrible artists but apparently it's internally developed, too!

But that doesn't explain how Versus XIII is also set in a technologically advanced society, unless it takes place during a different time period.

I could be wrong but, I don't think Versus takes place on either Gran Pulse or Cocoon at any point in time. It's set in the same universe perhaps (read: there's Fal'Cie), but not the same place.

For the most part people either loved or hated FFXIII. I'm on the side that loved it obviously and would like to see this game improve but my improvements would be different of those that disliked the game. I personally liked the linearity. Although it's extremely linear at times it's not like that the whole game and it opens up the more you progress. I've said this before in other threads but after playing open world games that just let you roam free and do whatever you please, it gets old quick for me and I rarely even finish games like that. FFXIII was refreshing for me from all those other games. It's not too open but open enough for me where I can just relax and enjoy the game. For me since I liked FFXIII, I don't want it too change too much. Of course I would like improvements, but mine would be different of some others. I have nothing against people who disliked the game, I am of course just throwing my opinion in there. So please don't try and argue with me because I enjoyed the game and hope it stays in the same spirit of FFXIII.

Same mythology/same Universe for all of the Fabula Nova Crystallis games but a different world, different technology, different characters, etc.

* Someone, can't remember who, it may have been Nomura tried to come out and say they shared nothing in common with each other except each in each game Crystals would play some part in the story.
[Show spoiler]But that statement has pretty much already been dis-proven in early screenshots and videos from Versus. They mention a Goddess, who is also mentioned several times in the Analects (which are a great read and give a very nice backstory of the FF13 world and insights more than likely how the Fabula Nova Crystallis games are actually linked.

I don't know where you guys get your confirmation. But the last thing I read on Versus XIII was this info from S-E.

-Final Fantasy Versus XIII is not a sequel or a spin-off of Final Fantasy XIII, but a whole new game for the PS3 system. It has a completely different world, settings and characters in comparison to Final Fantasy XIII-

-While the games are part of the same series, they will be relatively unrelated in the sense that the story, characters, and worlds will be different, however they will be based on and connected by myths.-

No where did I read S-E confirming it taking place in the same world as XIII.

Shared mythology perhaps, but not world.

[Show spoiler]Wasn't it Gran Pulse that was crashing towards Cocoon?

Wow, looks like it's time for me to take a closer look at the ending, I can't believe I confused the two.

Ugh. Lol, out of all the FF to make a sequel XIII gets it? The game wasn't completely bad, but boy oh, boy did they screw with what makes FF games so great (exploration, side quests, story, battle system, character customization, etc). XIII deserves the flack, however XII should have been the direction of these new generation of games. Square Enix hasn't been doing it at all this generation, whereas Bethesda has. Take note FF developers!

I agree with you on the exploration part, but I've never been a fan of side quests because the games usually get extremely difficult if you ignore them for the most part. I actually really enjoyed the battle paradigms and crystarium. I've just recently picked up the game again really enjoy it.
