Maybe I'm part of the minority on this one, but I enjoyed it when there were no leaks...the suspense was great leading up until Friday, animated popcorn gifs and all!

+1, I agree 100%!

But probably a good sign that they have NOT been leaked yet.

I was thinking the same thing.. you better believe that any "news" favorable to HD DVD would have been all over the net.

It's the same damn suspense,.. it's just been moved up a bit.

I wouldn't care at all except so many people have been saying it's a week in HD DUD could sell more which would be a shame.

All things consider-ed maybe it wouldn't be so bad. The DUD-ers could have a little joy before CES comes along and crushes their hopes. Even the Dolphins were able to win once,.. DUD could get that just to have a speck of happyness in their deprived lives.

But,.. I'm hoping it doesn't happen anyway.

During that particular week he went out of his way to say that the Open Season numbers were giveaways and thus part of the 72:28 was artificial, completely neglecting to even mention that HD-DVD players were giving away counted discs so it was impossible to say that Blu giveaways were trumping HD-DVD.

He did later go back and explain this statement, but I didn't see it until right now when I was trying to remember what about the week's post bugged me.

Here's the followup that I never saw until now:

Quote:
My point of Open Season was not to diminish the sales on the BD side. If it was taken that way, it wasn't my intent. It was to show what a title can do when is tied to the juggernaut of the PS3.
Given that I'll partially take back what I said, but not fully. He has gone on record as saying Blu-Ray should have done better than it did on a given week.

Of course it's now hard to reconstruct which week he was talking about, so I could be thinking of the wrong week altogether. But here's the problem...he's said things like this so it's just as hard for me to not clump all his statements together.

My guess isn't so much that he's a pro-HD-DVD shill, just that he has contacts who are. It's very hard to not be convinced by friends when they start making claims, especially if they seem reasonable and you have no real reason to look harder for facts.

I would just rather have the numbers from the source, than give the pleasure of releasing the numbers to the masses to one guy who has favored HD-DVD heavily in the past, and probably still does.

Said dude seems like a jerk but a somewhat sense-able person.

So,... he won't be pro-DUD for long.

Ok, I double checked, it was the week of Black Friday where Open Season finished at #2 so he made the comments about it.

I know its probably been discussed to death, but i just got back from Best Buy (expanded BD section FINALLY to 2 1/2 racks BD to 1 1/2 HD DVD) anyway, i snagged Mr Mrs. Smith, Crank, Brooks and FF ROTSS....but on my receipt it rang up 2 titles, FF and Brooks at 34.99 and put Crank and Smith at 0.00. I remember someone saying they half both prices or something because if it reduced to 0 it wont count towards a sale..........any validity?

Just because someone is an "insider" doesn't mean they don't have an agenda. It also doesn't mean they will always be truthful with the information that they have --- see "Amir"

DV is just an enthusiast, he isn't Satan, Baal, etc.

Now Rdjam is another discussion. He and the Kost man are about to have a coronary. I am not sure if its the 1.1 update for the PS3 or the fact they realize they are in a big, big hole. I think it's a little of both, because barring another huge payoff, I think Blu should wind up winning this thing in the not to distant future.

If you want to focus your format aggression, I think Rdjam or another of other disinformation agents are a better target than DV :P
I think we need to take what any insider says with a grain of salt. EVERYONE's information is biased based upon their point of view. Of course there's differing levels of bias. I really don't hate DV. I just disliked the fact that he made a HUGE issue of the matter, thought he was the authority on the matter, when I thought it was quite clear that he wasn't.

It really is worthless to even bother with Rdjam or any of the other hardcore fanatics at AVS. I think I'd rather shoot myself than engage in any sort of serious discussion with them again. They just spin arguments around in circles or ignore valid points, and keep posting their crap everywhere.

I sense there is concern about announcing numbers while HMM is giving the comparative metrics for the week. Since giving out these normalized numbers is being fought specifically by the HD DVD side (and it seems they may have been granted their wish starting in 2008) they may not want to release numbers.

You see, it's a lot harder to lie about numbers when a single unit count announcement will define the sales for all the top 10-12 titles that week.

DV will not post it until the prediction thread game at AVS is done which is at 4:00 pm est, also the thread creator has to post before the game is done which last week was 10 to 15 minutes later. DV posted at 4:40 last week.

I don't hate DV either, I just assume everything he says has a red tinge. This doesn't mean he'll be wrong always, or even often, it just means I have to be wary.

Just like I'm wary here because almost everything posted has a Blue tinge. Of course, It's harder to judge that cause I have one too.

I have a strong feeling if DUD actually got 50% he wouldn't have been able to keep it under wraps this long.

I think when Blu Ray wins this week it marks a complete year of winning each and every week.

Die HD DUD Die!

What's the earliest leak we've ever had? I thought last weeks was pretty early.

To count as a sale it has to be scaned at the point of sale with retailers. Mail-in free offers for instance DO NOT count because they are never scanned at the point of sale.

Just like X360-add on being sold and then giving Heroes Season 1 away for free....it was counted because it was scanned at the same time.

What I want to know is who was eatting all the discounted Heroes.....MS or Universal?
