I would love to see these classic Asian films into 3d.

I have the latest 42" Panasonic 3DTV and the latest Panasonic 3DTV now have the 2D-3D conversion also. Does not do much for me, not enough depth.
The only movies that I found worked well thoughout most of the movie was the last X-men movie, worked well. Found it worked with mixed results, the odd tv progam worked others did very little. Worked in some parts of Starwars, but most of it, did not work. Avatar, 2D, tried it worked very little, some parts in 3D, but again not much use. |

Not necessarily movies but would be nice to have 3D candies. Right now we have Gemma Arterton and Milla Jovovich. Olivia Wilde will come in April.
I wish for more. I wish to have a Diana Meneses singing compilation in 3D for 2 hours. Never mind she's off key at times and me not understanding the words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBXuy7B_r0k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61tMq...eature=related |

I'm not a big fan of 2D to 3d.
Instead for some certain movies, I run them at 60FPS as opposed to 24FPS. I love " SW Revenge of the Sith" for example. General Grievous comes right off the screen. Two other great movies at 60FPS are "Two Lane Blacktop: Criterion Collection" and the original " Vanishing Point " with Barry Newman. |

An interesting use of the 2D->3d conversion is during concert videos.
I've watched parts of Shakira's Oral Fixation Tour, U2's 360 Rose Bowl concert and Within Temptation's Black Symphony. During close-ups of the singers, the conversion falls flat on it's face. There just is nothing in the image for the chip to work on. But whenever the camera makes swooping moves across the audience or with a skewed angle along the stage, the volume of the concert space comes really into view. At the same time, some of these concert videos also show off some horrible mistakes: for instance, during the U2 concert if often seems as if the upper rows of the stadium somehow arch over the lower rows. Making it look like a really cool, but really dangerous way to seat an audience. Another good tip are the Wonders of the Solar System/Universe BBC series. Sure, Brian Cox looks a bit like a cardboard cutout and as always close-ups loose the 3D effect. But most of the series consists of wide landscape shots of whatever place on Earth they have ended up at this time, combined with CGI footage of the planets. Those scenes benefit a lot. |

So, the best thing I've found as of now for conversion is playing the DWA short films that were released on dvd, Shrek 3-d and Bob's Big Break. as they were made with anaglyph 3d in mind, the conversion feature could almost always figure out what to do pop-out and added depth on. on my sammy with conversion they looked almost as good as their bluray 3d feature film counterparts. not as good, but close.
plus the dvds are supercheap to buy as a set on ebay. I'm gonna try some other old anaglyphs if they have a 2d play option- anybody know of others that give you the choice? Last edited by seregloth; 05-01-2011 at 09:49 PM. |
