Default Sony FW - New updates for ALL players

Since there aren't threads for all of the Sony players I'll just post it here. Sony has posted new FW updates for all of its players although they haven't officially listed it yet on the firmware pages:

CA
BDP-S1 v3.60
BDP-S300 v3.70
BDP-S301 v3.70
BDP-S500 v3.50
BDP-S2000ES v3.50

US
BDP-S1 v3.60
BDP-S300 v3.70
BDP-S301 v3.70
BDP-S500 v3.50
BDP-S2000ES v3.50

UK
BDP-S1E v3.70
BDP-S300 v3.70
BDP-S500 v3.50

This utility updates the BDP-S1 firmware to version 3.60, and provides the following benefits:

Improvements over firmware version 3.20:
  • Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
Additional improvements over original firmware:
  • Adds Dolby® TrueHD and Dolby® Digital Plus Audio decoding functionality.
  • Enhanced playback compatibility with certain BD-ROM format discs.
  • Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
  • Enhanced customer support capability
  • Compatibility with the newly released BD-R/RE format (BDMV).
  • Corrects the output signal status information for audio output and display when Linear PCM 5.1 channel soundtracks are played via HDMI.

I just got off the phone with Sony and they have informed me that there are no new firmware upgrades to install at this time, and they are also not aware of them. They also told me not to install any "third party firmware upgrades".

That's because their CSR's aren't informed. If you notice the link goes directly to the Sony web site. Sony has always posted the FW to the web server prior to posting the updated web page.

Please check the posted links as these are NOT third party firmware updates.

It was nothing personal against you ... just correcting the info from the misinformed CSR.

I spoke to another rep and was told that they do not have version 3.70 for the bdp-s300, and that "any firmware update outside of their website is considered Unofficial".

I can understand and appreciate your concern, but I feel this is being blown way out of proportion. For example, if you go to the official SONY BDP-S1 download page:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu..._id=28&ULA=YES

The link goes to:

ftp://download.sony.com/US/bluray/UP...S1_VER0320.EXE

and the new update is located at:

ftp://download.sony.com/US/bluray/UP...S1_VER0360.EXE

As with any FW download at you own risk. Please do not attack the messenger as I would rather have these threads deleted then this to turn into some type of crusade.

My sincerest apologies, and I am glad that it worked out great for you.

PS- I need a paper towel, so that I can wipe the egg off of my face, lol...

I owned a RPTV from Toshiba Once, i learned on the Web that they were a free fix available for an issue with the 1080i input

Called Toshiba, the Rep didn't know anything (i had the Bulletin in PDF with me... LOL), i said that i had the Bulletin # with me, the Rep actually gave me crap about how i wasn't supposed to have that.. took my name and phone

Toshiba called me next week after that to set a meeting for the repair...

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Yeah REP knows SHIT!

That would be great. All Sony's 1.1, others will follow suit. HD-DVD will have NOTHING!!!

Don't know yet. I don't own any 1.1's or anything else. Load and startup is all I have. They are both better.
