Liking the fan artwork there! I think all this banner nonsense is deterring the manufacturers for producing good quality covers, it's just using up space and they usually end up putting a stick on top anyway saying the exact same thing...

Oh its definitely a sequel/reboot. They mention what happens in the first TRON a lot.

How can anyone think its a remake though? It's completely different from TRON, other than they both take place inside The Grid, or whatever the computer world is called.

Yes, my thoughts exactly! "Double Play" just sounds like some kind of cheap marketing ploy. I mean, they put on the cover what's included (Blu Ray+DVD+Digital Copy) anyway, so why whats the point of the various brandnames?

I think your right it does seem the US haven't had a Double or Triple play banner just combo packs and DVD+Blu-Ray+Digital Copy etc. I'm sure some smart-arse has asked "Triple Play? Does that mean I can only play it three times?"

Reboot? Hmmm, I'm guessing were it not for Bridges it would be a whole remake. From the 20min reel I seen of it it looks very poor and a remade. I will watch the Blu-ray though and return with my better informed opinions.

As for the original, it was desperately poor and made when a "Disney Film" meant no audience and massive losses. Disney had nothing better to do until the next Pirates film than look through old folders for potential remakes -I can see the head honchos saying "Ah, Tron? That can now be done in CGI -get Bridges on the blower but tell him he'll not be on the home video cover as people under 25 have never heard of him. Also tell him this is a new version".

Coming soon: The Cat From Outer Space: Reboot

I seen it in the cinema -and it looked amazing, yes. But it was an awful film. It's one of those films where people aged 30-40 have great memories of (like The Last Starfighter) but on closer inspection it's plainly bad.

I liked the cast and the idea but it was a "Disney film".

I've not seen the original version for years so will pick it up with the remake when it's released because the idea behind the film is still very attractive (and cool) and I love Bridges.

I think you're been slightly unfair on Tron it was made under the best intentions under difficult circumstances. Storywise the film did suffer but it's held dear in a lot of peoples hearts. And the effects were a revolution (although one that didn't turn very far).

And as always The Dude Abides....

And if I remember I was too frightened to see it in the cinema.... and Superman III scared me away from computers for years....

I think its worth seeing for the *amazing* PRE-CGI visual effects.. Gives it a wholly unique feel. It's going to look pretty good on Blu Ray i think!

I like how it just throws the audience into this world, without explaining what the hell is going on. I just sat there thinking "Where are we? What are those things? Whats happening?" a lot, because there is really no exposition until 30 minutes into the movie, which is pretty ballsy.

Jeff Bridges is obviously also a way better leading man than Garrett "Strut!" Hedlund.

Its like Avatar. A digital representation of yourself. But inside a computer.

I would have thought anyone going to watch the sequel would have seen the original.

I don't like banners either but they're there to to inform the consumer, they could be more subtle though.

Did anyone like my cover artwork? It would be nice for some feedback as I spent a good ten miutes on the thing.

Okay, so this thread has ballooned way too much since I saw it ealier today, meaning there are too many things to quote. So here is a quick reply.

The Driver:
Tron (1982) - Film made under good intentions but targetted at the wrong audience.
Tron Legacy (2010) - NOT A REMAKE/BOOT/HASH/BRANDING of the original film. Targetted at geeks. Geeks liked it. Critics hated it because critics are soul-less drones.

Moving on.

Fan art in this thread is cool. The only way it would have been better, would be to get rid of the blue banners all together and instead have the blu-ray logo in the corner, with details of what is in the package on the back. Front mostly clear, with back full of info, as it should be.

I didn't realize that Disney had moved their headquarters from California to King's Cross...

Slightly off topic from Tron I know, but people were talking about them. I think they should put these double and triple play banners on as stickers. That way people have a choice and the artists would have more room to play with!

I agree a few guys have mentioned it, or they could but a sleeve over them like those 'action classics' that were on DVD in ASDA a while back which on'y cover a quarter of the case. Still inform the consumer but give people who like to see some nice cover art a chance.

I've never been an LP collector or LD one for that matter but sometimes I feel slightly envious to the size of the things and their great coverart some of them are little works of art.

I'm not 100% on their release strategy as I'm sure some some stores won't stock all the options. And if it's true that the Core pack only has Tron as a Digital Copy it's one to avoid in my opinion.

The Digital Copy will be available in the 3D SuperPlay and Core Collector's Pack versions, not the DoublePlay blu-ray

I don't know why Disney wastes their money on these, I never use them and it's just a waste of a disc :/

and I think the Core Collector Pack will only be available in places like HMV for a limited time, and online. I don't think places like ASDA and Tesco will stock it...

Me too, but I'm going to wait for the reviews of Tron first to see how well it's been transfered. But knowing Disney it should be top-notch.
