Seven Samauri - Blu-ray Forum

I just wanted to know if anyone has any information on whether or not this film is going to be put on to bluray, this is a classical film and a film that not a lot of people take time to watch. Its a legend.

Considering Japan is over 90% Blu, it's just a matter of time.

This is one of my all time favorite movies BTW.

not likely. the film is decades old and the latest Criterion edition release was an improvement over the previous DVD releases but the old Japanese film stock were very poor. I doubt if transferred to high definition will show much improvement in the film quality.

I would love to see this on blu...I believe it still has something to benefit from high def.

The anime that is very loosely based on Seven Samurai is Samurai 7...and isn't that great...

Well I have the DVD, and it was released by the Criterion group so I expect to see it on BD eventually

I think that even if Seven Samurai did go Blu-ray it needs to keep it's popping, crackling sound and grainy texture, the age of the film and the way it's shot are what makes it a masterpiece. Well that and of course Kurosawa was one of the greatest directors of all time.

Restoring it is important. But I do not think they can ever remove all those defects from age. Pops and snaps might still be there, but I think in HD, I want to see it as good as they can make it.
I love this film, and hope to add this to my Blu-ray collection soon.
