It certainly was:

(Yes, Jay-Z was doing pretentious off-topic race-martyr rap appropriations of white-people's songs long BEFORE Kanye West...)

I could see him taking on the role Carol Burnett had in the 1983 movie, miss Pooch? Or something like that

Miss Hannigan! I finished the laundry! And look, I washed the floor! Didn't I do a great job?

Nah - see - that's Pride ****ing with you. **** pride. Pride never helps, it only hurts. Now I'm going to have to get medieval on your ass.

Wow, I just felt like a writer for Dreamworks or Family Guy.

They were born with silver spoons in their mouths. They'll be given any role they want because of their parents. I thought The Karate Kid was an ok movie...if it were original. I'm pretty sure you could put the Will Smith remake on mute and play the audio from the 1984 film together and they would almost sync up. Jayden Smith would have an Italian American accent.

I think there could be a good opportunity here to blend the original music and story of Annie with an updated timeline and musical sensibility. At least they'd be offering something different.

The way his daughter looks in the OP reminds me of Kim Wayans and several of her characters in In Living Color. Sort of a cross between Ms. Benita & her parody of Grace Jones.

Why doesn't he just let his kids have a childhood. Let them grow up like normal kids. And i've said it time and time again, his son cant act. He is the sole reason i gave away my copy of The Day The Earth Stood Still.

I love Will Smith movies, and that he has started to produce movies....but he needs to stop remaking old movies making his kids the star.

Since Bad Boys III would probably cost $60-$75 million up front just to bring back Will Smith, Michael Bay and Martin Lawrence (in addition to their cut of the grosses), I say just reboot it. How about Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson?

Hmmm, a private detective movie but with a white guy as the lead...

That might be just crazy enough to work.

Thanks to the wild popularity of Glee, Ryan Murphy has become a first choice for any film musical. We’ve heard his name bandied about as a choice for a Rocky Horror Picture Show remake and the film version of Wicked. And now he is evidently the top choice to direct the new version of Annie that Sony is prepping as a vehicle for Willow Smith.

Sony and Will Smith‘s company Overbrook Entertainment (which has partnered with Jay-Z for this and other films) wants to concoct a film that can do for Willow Smith what The Karate Kid remake did for Jaden Smith. And thanks to the single ‘Whip My Hair,’ the girl is probably already a lot more popular than her brother. (Or better-known, at least, which as GI Joe will agree is half the popularity battle.)

Deadline offers that Sony has approached Mr. Murphy about the job, but that it is “early days.” He directed Eat, Pray, Love for the studio, and that did well, so combine that with his obvious feel for the musical and this seems like the most obvious one-name shortlist ever. That doesn’t mean he’ll take the job.

So is Ryan Murphy a good choice to direct? I honestly don’t know, not being a Glee watcher. We know almost nothing about the ideas that are behind the script, other than ‘turn Willow Smith into a film star.’ That, and the songs, will be a huge part of any potential success for the film.

I’m more interested in The Normal Heart, the film Mr. Murphy said he would direct with Mark Ruffalo starring and a tentative start date in June of this year. It’s an adaptation of a play about the early outbreak of AIDS in New York City — serious stuff, and a real dramatic turn away from the other films he’s been offered.

Well if he cast some of the Glee cast in this also this may be a smash hit.
