I've never seen an adaptation of Caroll's original work yet that's made Alice particularly interesting. She always seems to be just the exposition's excuse to meet more interesting characters, which is a shame.

I guess we need to see Wonderland through her eyes but with an older Alice there's room for depth. Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz is similar in that respect as well. The lead characters can come off as the least interesting because the supporting charcaters are so outlandish.
